y not just make it a piggy/standalone like the microtech and such, cause then u dont have to worry about losing control of the AC or alt (u can just get a diff alt) but the gauges wont work either so it seems like a pita to remove the stock ecu all together.

I have the ability to make it standalone and have the alt, AC, speedo, and tach work. ;)

That kind of takes away from the plug and play aspect.

sweet. is that though the MS or some kinda trickery (im assumeing ur making it true standalone where u remove the ecu altogether)?

i know, i didnt know the abilities of the megasquirt. i was just sayin.

i was reading through the MS info the other night, and this unit looks very promising....

people have been using it, and there are a ton of guys using them in different cars. kcbhiw is helping out because he is a electric mad scientist who has gordes of experience, has already put one unit into a friends car, owns a system himself and will be running ut soon enough. I am kinda the guinea pig of our littel ga group that gets to run this first the way he is gonna run as a pnp. which I am happy to do. I don't know enough about circutry to do this myself. i am pretty sure I could handle installing a kit that is all ready to go, but this is more personal and teaches me alot about my car and actually tuning. I am excited about it for sure.

yeah hurry up and get that system on your car so i can start building mine i cant wait if things keep picking up with mega skeet like they are i can see many standalone companies being able to compete with the price

Shadow, yelleranahalf(correct user name is in the second post) can tell you everything you need to know. No reason to wait

yeah, I bought Yellers MS. I am installing it a little differently though. That is what kcbhiw is working on and Shadow is waiting to see how we get it once we get it running

What exactly do I need to install a basic setup of the megasquirt into the P5?
what cables do I need?
thanks

Currently, you have to either wire it into the existing harness, or spool up your own custom harness.

I'm a Purdue University graduate in Electrical Engineering, so if anyone needs help setting their megasquirt up, i'd be more than happy to offer any help or advice. So far i've helped build, install, and tune a pcb v2.2 megasquirt on a saturn thats controlling fuel only at the moment. i've also built, installed and tuned a pcb v3 megasquirt for my car thats running fuel and direct ignition control. and for anyone that needs it, i finally figured out the cold start cranking pulsewidths to actually get my car started when its freezing cold outside...

Good stuff. Would you mind posting your config files/params? Perhaps we can put together a library over time.

sure, i'm at school now though....but i'll post some as soon as i can.

It's on the way. Just waiting for the harness to be completed. Should be awsome though.

What are you doing about controlling the alternator and A/C?

I'm looking into going MS pretty soon as well...

It's gonn abe piggy back for now leaving Alt, A/C, Dash, and idle air to the Stock ECU, til a solution to the altenator is solved.

BTW Chris i have a MSI and A MSII, the MSII is going in my car and the MSI will probably go for sale, i don't know if maybe you are interested in it for the pro or even the 240. I am sure we could work something out and talk about it later if you're interested.

Yeah, I'm definitely interested in it if it's cheap enough for the 240.

I'm keeping my eye out for a MegaSkeet-II board for sale for the protege though.

I just recieved my new MS-I in the mail from Kevin a few days ago. I'm currently waiting on a few no-related parts to arrive before I get started on the install, but I should be ready to go early next week. I've been reading alot of the online help files for the MS, but there are still a few things that I can't quite wrap my mind around yet. Hopefully, it will all get clearer once I start playing with it. For anyone that needs an alternator solution...the BG chassis alternator will work and bolt up just fine. The pulley will have to be swapped for the BJ one and it will need to be slightly modified to line up properly. I'll be getting a Samurai alternator to run my car (4lbs lighter) so I'll have a BG alternator for sale that is already modified to work on the FS motor if anyone needs it.

Justin, what is the samuri alt? Kevin has been done with my MS for some time now we just haven't had time to install it, guess he's been too busy working on yours even though he's had mine for a year and a half.
