Anyone know the diameter of the stock downpipe?

What's the diameter of the stock downpipe?

Has anyone installed the corksport power series downpipe? Did you keep the stock mid pipe or switch it out? How do you guys like it?

stock is around 2". hooking up a CS DP to the stock midpipe would be pointless, seeing as the stock cats are pretty restrictive. IMO upgrades to the exhaust should be: midpipe, then DP, then cat-back. that is assuming performance/investment is your primary concearn.

yeah, its tiny.

but most factory downpipes are, i believe the STI uses a 1.5 inch downpipe

Yeah the first exhaust should be and was my Mid-pipe, then the rest of the exhaust. I'm hoping to do the DP and exhaust mani together since you have to remove the mani to properly swap the DP anyway. I would hate to have to do that work twice. I removed the exhaust mani once to fix a blown gasket going to the turbo!! That s*** took me all day.

its not that hard to remove the turbo lines and remove everything as a package

didn't someone make a writeup on doing the Spipe without mani removal?

I've seen a writeup... but what it amounted to was "remove radiator, then spent 12 hours trying to get at all the s-pipe nuts" lol. But having done a couple, it's not really that hard.

I did a write-up. But I failed because the write-up shows how to get to all the bolts but the 5th one that is tucked under the S-curve. I didn't know at the time that there was a 5TH bolt. You might be able to get a stubby ratchet in there though. I haven't tried that yet

you cant get the 5th without removal!! i tried every tool imaginable!

i even tried the caveman way with a hammer and aul to try to break it free and then spin off with my hand...

it only takes about 2 hours to take the whole setup off, take the spipe off and put it back on..
wow.. just realized how big of a thread jack this is! haha

if i remember correctly I read that the stock exhaust are less than 1.5" in the bends because they were bent using some crush method...

pulling the stock turbo is easy... i had mine out in 30 minutes... just undid the j pipe at the exhaust flange with mid pipe.. disconnected my opil lines and my water lines, intercooler crap... and pulled the bolts to the exhaust mani.... then spent bout 15 minutes trying to get it out of the little hole through the bottom... it took some work.. but i wanted the turbo off... now im just waiting on parts... then im doing a head swap... and some bigger turbo stuff going on... and then im leaving it the hell alone...

as to the inner diameter... ill go measure mine for ya... and take a picture tomorrow... but it is less then 2 inches i know that... because the doughnut taht goes AROUND the j pipe its self is 2 inches... aas the outer diameter... so it is roughly the same..

The stock s-pipe is cast, no crushing involved as it is poured into a mold.

yea i measured it when i had one and it was like a little less then 2in diameter
wouldnt be pointless to hook it up to the CS j pipe since any decrease in restriction should increase power...
