Anyone from MSCAI to COBB SRI notice..

FYI- That finned box with japanese letters is identified in the MS CAI installation manual. Can't remember what the hell that damn thing was, but its called out in there.

i gotta check it out cause im like what the hell is this thing damn its hot (hand)

went for a ride during lunch AAT=62deg (wow) ITA while moving 40+ 72...stoped at a light IAT=89deg lol....After moving again it took about 15 seconds for the temp to fall back down.

i have the ms3 cobb intake on my ms6 currently and its 60 degrees here. my iat while driving was in the 80s-100. when stoped it hit 135 degrees. my boosted temp was around 190-210 while driving and while stopped it was 250 degrees.

if your reading boosted temp off the DH is not completely acurate yet they are still working out the bugs....

When you first get into your car and start it check the Boosted temp mine reads 115 when the cars sat over night and its 30 deg lol

even if that part is wrong, the iat is still up there. when i had my fujita cai in it was seeing about 7 degrees above ambient.

ive noticed this as well. I was always iwth 5 degrees if an ambiant. However its a turbo car, the ic does all the cooling. Driver dynoed the difference and i believe the sri made more power or the same exact power as the cai.

Yeah i read and saw that data.... I wanna see if this inlet pipe makes any difference...... Othere wise ill be using it as a snorkel

I don't get as much of a boost spike in 5th and 6th with cobb sri vs the ms cai...finally got my boost gauge back in today

this is all somewhat odd to me.... I notice IAT about 7-9 deg more than ambient with my sri when moving approx 40 mph.

Might have to talk to my buddy (EngulfinFlames) who has an 08 w/ms CAI and datalog the 2 side by side if we can get a free moment

ooo...please do! =d

For some reason when I run my intake in SRI mode, it feels torqier on the lower end, maybe its just me.

I may have said this before, but I think comparing an SRI with a CAI on a dyno is BS. This is one of those cases where the only way to tell is with the car in motion, which means using your preferred approach and taking it to the track. Ideally to the strip and to a road racing track. Do a blind test with a good driver. Don't tell him which intake is on the car and have him make a handful of runs each way. See if there is any measureable difference in results.

actually in this case a dyno works. Cause it was minutes apart and if anythign a sri should have the disadvantage at the dyno cause there is no moving air around it.

From a cursory inspection of my hood, I would say that it is not vented to release hot air trapped in the top of the engine compartment. (I wonder how hard that would be to do...) The low area has a clear path for air movement through it, which means its temp should be significantly lower compared to the top area where an SRI sits when the vehicle is in motion. Plus the fact that most photos I've seen of dyno runs (I have never had one done myself) have the hoods open. This clearly negates any advantage a CAI might have.
Mind you I'm not trying to say that I think one is better than the other (hell, I just converted my MSCAI to a short ram (for reasons of laziness)), just that in this case the vehicles have to be in motion to make it a fair comparison.
