Do any of you know the part number of the little tweeter pod on the doors? If not all you have to do is pull it off and look at the back. I am looking to purchase these and I was looking for the part number. I dont like talking to the underpaid geeks at the parts counter who dont know what they are talking about.
Any information is greatly appreciated.
Mike

how can you be bitter about the parts geeks. I thought ALL of them were gracius, patient workers dedicated to customer service! Hehe

I'm wondering WHY they put the part number on the back of the speakers?? 98% of the rest of the parts on the car don't have a part number attached??

There are several good "online" Mazda dealerships with GREAT parts departments and you can get good info from them, as well as saving lots of $$$.

One of the best is Trussville Mazda near Birmingham Alabama. An e-mail (parts@trussvillemazda.com) will usually get you prompt answers to your questions, and great price quotes as well. For example, I needed a new clutch slave cylinder for my Miata, and my local guy quoted me $98, and "4 to 6 business days" to get me the part. I ordered it from Marshall at Trussville, had it the next day (UPS ground) for $46.98 plus $8.50 shipping - No tax.

Just to clarify

Sorry if I didnt make the post clear, but I want the part number of the little plastic triangle that holds the tweeter. My triangles have a part number on em, but I really dont want to cut my factory ones to install tweeters, therefore want to get the newer ones with the holes already in em.
Thanks
Mike

Here's your info...
It's stamped on the inside:
B26A L >ABS<

That's what was on the Driver's side, I'm assuming the Passenger side is stamped R, but I forgot to check. If you need me to look, I will.
Hope this helps in your quest with the parts dopes.

Thanks

Thanks for the info I really appreciated it. Hey just to ask how do you like that rear bumper guard. I was thinking of getting one of those. I think it would look good and seeing that you also drive a blue one, what do you think?
Thanks again
Mike

The bumper guard looks decent, doesn't take anything away from the car's looks. And I'd have a gouge in my bumper from moving out of the dorms if I hadn't gotten it. Would have been a bit embarassing to have the first 2002.5 off the truck in New England and messed it up the first week I had it.

One more thing

On those tweerer pods are the tweeters flush mounted or surface mounted.

I'm pretty much a newbie moron when it comes to working on my car, at least when you get down to terminology. . (Evidence: said tweeter almost got slammed off after forgot to pop it back on and closed the door to test the front and rear speakers I installed in my first real handyman project with my car.) Tell me what you mean by surface and flush mounted and I'll tell you which it is. Sorry to be just another punk law student asking you to define what "is" is.:D

Do they stick out a little from the little plastic triangle or do they stick out alot? flush mount being almost flush and the surface being stuck on top.
Mike

That's what I thought. They're actually mounted completely within the triangle and there's a speaker grill formed in the middle of the triangle where I'm presume yours is just solid, so essentially flush mounted. The speaker isn't glued or anything, just rotates into a small tab/shelf next to the grill holes to keep it in place. Let me know if I can provide any more description or info... Quick off-topic question, did you have to drill for your pedals or did they attach easily?

The brake and the clutch pedals attatched with no drilling or anything they have a little bracket type deal that attaches to the back, as for the gas pedal it had a different type bracket that I didnt like, so I used the 2 sided tape that it came with to hold on the gas pedal, therefore there is no little clip brackets that go behind the gas pedal to interfere with it, they were actually very easy to install. about those tweeters how deep are they? I took off my panels and between them and the door there is less than an inch. Hey I really appreciate all the help with them. thats all I need for my system to be complete is doors/tweets. lemme know if I can be of more help.
Mike

Thanks for the info! The tweeter is basically just fractions narrower than the pod it self. It fits flush behind the plastic (draw a circle in the middle of your pod and that's where the speaker grill is on mine) and the wiring fits in the space aft of the circle (above the right angle of the triangle). Very Tiny part.
Let me know if you need anything else... wish I had a digital cam to help you out...

hey thats cool its been helpful already. I guess I will just have to go to mazda (or maybe ford, my sister works in the pts dept at the local ford) and see about em. Thanks alot!!

aahh.... one last thing, what are they wired to? the door speakers or do they have their own wiring and little eq box? I am just trying to figure out how to wire them and everything.
Thanks
Mike

I don't think Ford is going to be able to help you out with a Mazda part...especially one that probably comes from Japan. Remember 97% of the Protege 5 is import...

either way it is still cheaper for a dealership to buy from a dealership, instead of an individual, eventually someone will trade in a ford at a mazda dealership, and it will need some parts.I also have a 94 ranger with more money in it than possible, and all the oem ford parts I get for 10% over the dealer cost like the wheels for instance. they list for well over 150$ each and I paid 110$ each, they are for a 98 mustang cobra, pretty much cobra R wheels if you ever see them.

They have their own wiring separate from the door speakers, but what it runs to I have no clue. Whatever it is isn't behind the door when you take the interior off to change the front door spoeakers.

The tweeters are wired in parallel with the main speaker in the door. All you have to do is tap them into the wires. The crossover (capacitor) is mounted on the tweeter itself, so the tweeter doesn't try to produce bass.
