Anybody ever wonder about this?

I got it my car last night and was wondering....Why in God's name do the needles light up when the door is opened but turn off as soon as the car is turned on...WTF is that all about? I'd like my needles lit when I'm driving around with the lights off....Just curious

I think the needles need to be off when the car is running but the lights are off to prevent grammas from driving 30 miles @ 8pm w/no lights on. But why they tun on when the door opens....?

They must have made a change in the later models. The gauges in my 2010 illuminate as soon as the car is started and dim when the headlights are turned on. You can adjust the intensity regardless of whether the headlights are on or not. It even beeps when the illumination is put to Maximum..

Our '08 is illuminated like your '10. Backlight is brighter during the day, dim at night. Not sure about coming on with the dome lights though.

Dim with the headlights, not just at night.
