My car feels like it's bucking. That would be a good word for it... Thursday I drove the Escape and left my car for husband. He called me at work and said my car felt strange. Took it to the service guys and they said it was more than likely a recall issue. So they did the 3 recalls I hadn't had done yet and my husband took it home after 15mins. of having a rental. On the way home it still didn't drive right. It was super cold that day when it happened. I didn't drive it until last night and I didn't even get halfway down the block and it started kind of lurching or I guess bucking? I felt like I was on one of those mechanical bulls. It doesn't sound quite right and it feels like something is holding the engine back then releases then holds back again. The car coasts fine in neutral so I know the ebrake is not frozen. I don't leave it on but husband has a couple of times. It doesn't do it too bad in 1st but feels like it's missing then when I shift to 2nd it gets real bad. Stays that way in 3rd and 4th.
My car has less than 8,000 miles. It does not have the CEL illuminated.
Has anyone else experienced this? I'm going to take it back to the sevice people on Monday but curiosity has gotten the better of me.

Thanks!

Ive seen a few threads on a similar issue with the MS3...

sounds like the engine is either A) hitting fuel cut. B) hitting boost cut C) stumbling due to a misfire...

first 2 wouldnt cause a CEL under most conditions...

any mods on the vehicle or is it stock?

i think bad turbo, my sisters cx7 did the exact same thing, they replaced the turbo and its fine now. replicate it with the tech in the passenger seat

It's stock. Thanks for the suggestions.

So her turbo didn't even spool but it caused the car to do that? Crazy!

yea idle her car was fne, then while accelerating, the car bucks back and forth like if i was tapping the brake...they check alot of s*** and they ended up changing the turbo and its fine...****** wierd s*** tho, warranty ftw

DAMMIT!!!! I didnt notice mine doing this until tonight after I read this post!!!

LoL no worries, now I know to keep an eye out for it and take it in next time I go home, so I can go see my dealer. ;) I should thank you, actually. :)

The dealer is your best bet, but in the mean time, you should check over all the hoses in your engine bay to make sure nothing is loose. What you're describing is not common unless the car is modded (to cause the fuel cut issue mentioned before).

Nope, totally stock. Only mod is a little mud under the hood from driving during a flash flood. :p

Vixen - when and where, darlin' ;) lol

You're kidding about the flash flood right?

Kinda. I was driving down a remote road between two parts of base (Basilone Road on Pendleton, if anybody is familiar with it) and it started raining really heavily out of nowhere. I was hitting streams that were running across the street that were at LEAST 6 inches deap, closer to a foot possibly. Hydroplaned a few times, finally decided to slow down and get back in one piece rather than in a hurry. :p

The service guys believe it to be an o2 sensor. They ordered one and should be able to install tomorrow. I hope that's all it is. What causes an oxygen sensor to go bad? Poor manufacturing?
All the mustangs we've had seem to have bad ones but this car has really low miles.

Simple to see if the traction control is bothering you (as it does me), just turn it off and try to replicate.

If it still bucks, I'd suggest:

a: coil pack (sometimes they randomly go bad.)
b: Wet MAF sensor (run through some water?)
c: Loose hose somewhere, letting in unmetered air (which the engine is "surprised" by, causing jerking or hesitation.)
d: Poor fuel quality (did husband fill it up with 87 octane?)
e: Leaking stock BOV, or damaged/non-functional.

I'd say that covers a stock car.

It happens while going slow so I doubt it is a traction control issue.

b: no water
d: possible, sometimes he's an r-tard. But he's been having smart days lately so prolly not.

When you say slow, im assuming partial throttle?

If so, id check the connection or readings on your TPS.

An incorrect reading, especially with a load will def cause your car to buck like a bull.
