2002 Protege5 & 2005 Mazda6 S Wagon
Hello everyone,
I've owned a 2002 Protege5 for many years. Now that it's pushing 191,000 miles i'm interested the the Mazda6 wagon. Looking at a 04 tomorrow with manual transmission. Has there been any common issues with this car? Anything that i should keep a lookout for?
Thank You in Advance

I have a wagon, manual with 90k miles on it. No issues at all. The car is far from stock

Thanks Perro
Saw the wagon today but the condition was way to rough for me. The search continues.....

With some manual 6's, there's an issue with the stock clutch creating too much dust, it gets into the starter and causes a grinding noise on startup. It sounds like the noise a car makes when you try to start it but it's already running. lol

^Marlon's Wagon doesn't do this, but his wife's 6 Hatch, as well as my Wagon do it. Only cure is to take the starter out, and clean it. Getting a new starter to try and get rid of the noise is not the fix, because there's nothing wrong with the starter itself. If it was a huge problem, you could try an aftermarket clutch, they usually create less dust than OEM.

Mine only does it on cold startups, like first thing in the morning. It had to have been doing it when the previous owner had it, but he lucked out and the car was warm when I test drove it, so it didn't make the noise, or else I'd have bargained harder with him. LOL I cleaned it out, and it lasted 9 days before the noise returned. Ack!

Finally found my new wagon. It's a 05 S Sport 5mtx in steel grey. Brought it home last night. I plan to mod it very soon and have been researching for the past couple weeks. Does anyone have an opinion on the lowering springs? I'm down to racing beat or mazdaspeed. Also I can't seem to find anyplace selling the CP-E intake that is so highly rated. Is it no longer available?

CP-e Intake is no longer available new, and the mazdaspeed lowering springs are no longer available also.

You could check TEIN for springs, they are liked by everyone that gets them.

Check AWR for a lower wishbone mount, I have 95 duro in mine. Also optional are the transmission mounts and passenger side mount.

MSDS headers or Nautalis Peformance Headers are recomended, but if you wait, Magnaflow is making OEM replacement with cats still in them.

"Change your PCV valve and hose quick!!"

I this because of the excessive oil consumption threads that I read?

"MSDS headers or Nautalis Peformance Headers are recomended, but if you wait, Magnaflow is making OEM replacement with cats still in them."

Any idea when the Magnaflow is going to be available? I have been reading about pre-cat failure and it's got me nervous. Almost ready to buy the MSDS

Not sure, you can call Magnaflow if you want to check. Personally, I will be running my MSDS when I get the car back together.
