was wondering if there are any tips of the trade for car shows. like more some things will get you more points and be on the judges good side. just small stuff like that and possibly raise points. going to my first one on oct. 29. so any help would be great.

hmmm, well in my opinion:
-talk to the judges when they judge your car, but dont go overboard and irritate them. point out any custom parts or work on your car.
-clean your exhaust and sideskirts well. they stick their hand underneath sometimes to check for cleanliness.
-make sure all your parts are functional (seats, cages, seat belts, etc.) you get docked points for unfunctional parts.
-u get 1 point i believe just for opening your trunk, even if nothing is in it!
-open your doors so they can see your clean door jams while judging.
-you may wanna print a sheet or make a poster board with pics and a mod list

hmm thats all i know of off the top of my head....

good luck!
peace

thanks man, i was wondering what those poster things were next to the cars. i'll take that into consideration. thanks again.

Like stated before -- open everything, even if u have nothing to show .. but at the same time ....

Clean EVERYWHERE -- they will even feel under hard to reach brackets in the engine bay.

And from my show POV -- get some nitrous ... a $600 kit will get you the same ammt of points as a couple thousand dollar turbo kit. I was in it purely for show -- not the go -- so I came out ahead no matter what :)

EDIT: Be carefull with the judges tho ... when they come over introduce yourself ... but ive seen judges get mad when you go over the car with them. They know what they are doing (hopefully) and get offended when you show them things that anyone would know. Maybe just point out some unique things to the car that they might not be totally aware of (I had the one and only Jspec rear bumper in the country - I think there might be 1 other now). But offer your assistance if they would like to know more.

The key to points is a clean car. You can have all the work done to your car in the world that you want, but if they see that your jambs are dirty, and your carpets arent clean, and you have dust on your dash and what not they are going to take points off for that. I have seen cars that are not as modified as others, but just immaculate and clean as a whistle beat full show cars because the kids just expected to win since they had more done. Take the time to clean your car before the show, and when you get there spend at least an hour cleaning it. Clean under the hood, in the jambs, in the trunk. Let them see that you take car of your car and have pride in it. Other little dressups that you could do would be wire loom (but make sure you fit it into something or make it so that it doesnt have frayed ends), billet, or painted covers on things like knobs, seat levers, etc. Also, look in your wheel wells make sure that they are all undercoated and shiney black. if there is chips and spots were the undercoat was chipped do yourself a favor and go to walmart and by some kyrlon or flat black paint or even semi gloss...pull your wheel of, and spray the wheel wells so they look factory. They ALWAYS look at that. Just some tips. My bf has been showing his car for almost 4 years now and he can tell you first hand what they look for. And make sure you walk around your car with the judge and show him any things that he missed.

FYI ... no go on the wireloom -- do it the right way and replace hoses with colored silicone kits from Hose Techniques.

As a few people in the industry have said -- "loom is just cheap"

Loom is not "just cheap" if you do it right like I stated. If you cut it short and you can see ends and and fray marks yes then it looks cheap. But if you fit it right, and make it look like its supposed to be there...factory...it will always look good. And you have to keep up on it. If it gets dirty thats when it starts to look like crap. Some of the most famous show cars out there have loomed wires. But everybody has there own opinion.

Must not be looking at all the sponsored cars, and featured cars in the booths then (poke) And we basically hit every show on the circut that is on the east coast, and many shows out towards TN. By next year we will be hitting shows in MS, and CA. My bf is a photographer for a magazaine so one of the perks is that I get in all of the shows with him for free. I have been to shows from Import Xpressions, to HIN/HID but would rather hit a club run show ANY day of the week, more quality rides.

Like I stated before...wire loom can look really good if applied correctly...here are a few examples...

If used moderatly and cut right a loom job can look really clean. I will say though that I have seen my fair share of bad loom jobs, I am not denying that. But as far as loom goes it looks real clean if you take your time and apply it right. The silicone lines do look good as well.

also, wire loom is nice in chrome if your entire motor is chrome or a decent amount of chrome parts. that's what i noticed about the pics posted above mine. if u got a chrome intake and thats it, putting wire loom up the ying yang would look wierd...

for our car, ud need to chrome all the brackets, the valve cover, the intake manifold, and other misc pieces

a display helps alot, just some mirrors and tiles adds alot of points.
plus yes defiently clean everything .plus hide what u dont want seen.

if u wanna make your engine look emptier, do what i did, take out the AC fan. its just two 10 mm bolts and a wire to unplug ;)

those looms look like poop

they look WAY better completely replaced, come on man, don't argue, go big or go home

alright thanks for the replies. i've been busy and havnt been on in awhile. i'm going to call around to get my valve cover professionally painted or if that fails i'll just do it myself. i'll post pics of everything. thanks again. now since it's a daily driver i'm trying to see what i can do to hide the everyday wear and tare.

hmm painted or chrome, i wouldnt advice (looking at a long term point of view). it chips after a while. if u had free time, id just buy rubbing compound and start polishing away o.O

but good luck in your decision :)

Might want to look into powdercoating your valve cover. Reasonable priced and its not going to chip or dull like paint will. You can also polish it and have it clear powdercoated to give it a cleared appearance. Some places can even powdercoat to appeare to be chrome. Just gotta go talk to them. If you want to see some pictures of what they look like powdercoated let me know I have tons.
