Any structural Engineers in the house?

Hey, I'm not a nerd, I'm a techno geek. Never finished my electrical mechanical engineering degrees so I don't qualify for nerd. Instead I've dealt with consumer electronics for the last 18 years.(boom07)

Seeing as I build walls for a living I can tell you that Greg S has it going on. Steal framing was originally designed for skyscrapers. It is much lighter than wood and you need lighter materials to built extremely tall buildings. Steel framing is much cheaper than wood and however flimsy it may be it is perfectly suited for comercial buildings. my sugestion is sandwich each metal stud with DNSF#2 2X4. It will hold much more than stud material and is relitively cheap.

It is to hang a 50" NEC plasma and I was considering the Sanus mount but will likely use the Cheif as we are Chief dealers. Plus the mount can pivot a full 90 degrees in either direction.

I was assumeing that we would have to anchor the added wall studs to the atual ceiling truss. I just didn't know how wide of a distance will have to do this for. I was also assuming that we will have to anchor the wood studs to the floor.

Metal or wood studs running at 45 degree angles to the ceiling truss should do it. I just don't know if that's an "approved" way. Also, plasmas don't weight that much; certainly not 200lbs. I was a little surprised to see that chief has a sing-out wall mount that extends to 37" and has a 200lb capacity.

Good luck

I'd say you could get away with just opening up one stud bay and building a slightly narrower ladder frame section in there and be good. I forgot to ask does this place had a drop ceiling and your walls are free standing or is the top of the wall framed to a cross beam? if cross beamed then what I discribed will work fine, if not then I'm out of my league and others will have to chime in.

Yeah, the Chief mounts are nice, we carry them also but use the Sanus stuff do to the cost factor, Chief is just play expensive but they have everything.
