Any police officers here?

Giving out those types of tickets to people only re-enforces the public's bad perception of police officers. It is not necessary.

Exactly... and it's not like my driving record has anything on it, it's clean! My car is insured, my registration is fine, and my inspections are fine. I was well mannered, spoke nicely, and politely gave her the paperwork. I didn't fight back, or talk trash...

The only thing I can imagine is that she had another cop come up behind them, so maybe she had to out of obligation? I don't know... but anyway, I fixed it the same day and have the receipt ready. I'm waiting on a court day.

Oh, it was a her!
Then you must have forgotten to say something to her in additional to the usual "what's the matter officer?" (evil)

What were the circumstances behind getting pulled over? Was it only dark out or was it foggy/snowing/raining? I assume you had it out for a while since you haven't said that it had just happened.

If I were a cop, I'd ticket you too if there were inclement driving conditions(see above) but not if it was just dark out.

if you change the bulb and contest the ticket, they'll ask you if it is fixed now, if so, they will usually throw it out.

they call those "motivational tickets"

You should follow that cop home and take a baseball bat and smash out his car headlights.

Yeah follow me home and you will be on a lead diet.....!!!!!

Quit reading in to it and making it more complicated than it needs to be. Just fix the light and show the court the receipt of purchase for the new light. Explain it was an isolated incident, has been repaired, etc.

And the sooner you repair it, the more likely you are to get it removed.

Quit posting here and go fix the light.

Well, I have a receipt for Pep Boys for a light the same day... I got pulled over at 1am and replaced it by 10am. I'm sure I can get it taken off, I'm just curious about the price, and why.

As for the conditions, it was only dark out. No rain, no fog, nothing.

Fines vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

It completely depends on the level of government that sets the fines. Some cities have high fines, others don't. Some counties rely completely on whatever the judges wants, some have a fixed scale. There is no real way to compare a fine from where you got the ticket to anywhere else because there is no standard. You would have to judge your fine against other same violations in the same place you got pulled over to determine if it was high or low or the same.

As far as getting the ticket, how long was the light out before you got pulled over?

I have written plenty of head light out tickets...The ones I have written, the person admitted that it had been out for a minimum of three weeks, some told me two or three months. I don't care what the conditions are, its dark you need two headlights to see properly and if you are lazy, you deserve a ticket.

If you have no ckue how long its been out, you get a ticket for being lazy.

If the light has been out a short time frame, one maybe two days, a warning works.

Attitude or not, nice or mean, I don't care....You get the ticket for the violation, not your attitude. The judge will use your attitude in court if you choose to fight it, then you can explain to a judge why you were a jerk, or why you were being nicey nice.

I found out my headlight was out on Sunday night... I work for an ambulance on mondays and tuesdays for 14 hour shifts, which the store is closed by the time I get home. I admit, I could have gotten it on wed or thurs, but I thought I had a headlight at home from when I replaced them, but it was the fogs that I had. I was definitely going to get one on Friday when I got paid, but got pulled that Thurs night. I admit that I could have gotten them earlier, but it's an isolated incident, and according to my record, I'm not a repeat offenser or have any other tickets.

I would have let you go on that one...

Since you already have the ticket, if you go to court, you have a reasonable story, your car is fixed and a good attitude, a reasonable judge should be nice.

I think that $115 is alot for a headlight. I got $115 ticket here in Philly for careless driving. Once you get to court they will probably ask you if u got the light fixed, and if u did, you should be free to go. When I went last week some lady was pulled over for driving without a license and she was like 30. And they told her to never let it happen again and to get a license. And the judge seemed cool, not a dick at all.
