My first panorama: Downtown Miami on Biscayne Bay

What do u think?

@ IAMHOLLYWOOD: The pano is okay but I think wide-angle + landscape + no foreground detail = meh. I would recommend using a longer lens and more shots. Maybe take the picture at night. Also, the setting is nice (the Bay) but the pier is no good. Is there a park that overlooks the Bay which you have access to?

@ FunkyBuddha: How about a harder angle on that light. I think you use an umbrella which can be nice but this particular shot, with the great wardrobe and background texture, begs for a harsher light. I'm struggling a bit with my single flash portaits right now. I really REALLY need to get a second flash...

So here's one I've been working on this week. My brother is looking for a casual shot he can include with his graduation announcements. This is one of the proofs.

The set-up is an SB-600 into an unbrella on a stand about 45deg up and right of the subject. The sky was cloudy so it provided even but flat lighting. I would have liked another flash to provide a bit more separation from the background. Post processing includes some curves, vignette, and highpass overlay to help make the image pop a little.

Yup..one umbrella about top left. I should've brought it down a bit more.

Your brother's pic looks good. Nice and casual and good catch light in his eyes.

Another one for my brother I just finished editing. A little different approach to editing...no desat, no overlay, less severe vignette. Better, worse, same?

More from this batch to come...

The pup is a bit soft, but getting him to hold still was near impossible.
The car was simply bad ass!

Canoga Camera (California) had the best price. At the time, Amazon's price was about $50 more. B&H Photo, Adorama, and Beach Camera were also $100 more, though Beach dropped the price $50 since then. So far, the images are pretty damn impressive straight off the camera. FIrst two are with the 5D.

This is pretty much straight off the camera, RAW -> JPG converted. The only thing I did in Photoshop to the JPG is a +3 contrast
