Any photographers in here?

Nikon lenses are also more expensive.

have you handled a D200 before? it is by far the most solid camerea I have picked up. (I havent used a 5D or 1D yet)

the nikon ergonomics make a lot of sense as well....

I remember back in the day I used to want a Nikon F5 when I was in High School. Then recently a Nikon D2Xs.
A co-worker of mine recently bought a Cannon 30D, and brought it to work to show me the features. It was awesome!
Why are the Nikon lenses more expensive? Are they better than the Cannon lenses? Hell, even the new, top-of-the-line Canon EOS-1D Mark III, 10 mp, 10 fps is only $3999, while the D2Xs is $4699.95 estimated selling price!

I am not so sure that Nikons are more expensive than canon in all cases, first they dont have as many lenses to choose from but the ones I have looked at seem to be on par with Canon. Pretty much all the aftermarket lenses from sigma, tamron etc are within 30 dollars difference between nikon - canon.

the top of the line canon sells for far more than that and is a 1Ds full frame and just broke the 20MP barrier.

maybe I missed something in that article but why are they comparing a 5D to a D200? that makes no sense to me whatsoever, ok it says they are the latest to compare, well yeah years ago lol I would take a 5D over the D200 in a heartbeat

the 5D is FF, the D200 is a 1.5x crop which is more comparable to a 30D, the new 40D will almost for sure beat the D200 in every category is my guess except maybe the body layout

+ the 40D has allot of options the D200 doesn't, is faster, less noise, and still cheaper

the XTI vs D40X though? well thats another story I can see why people pick the D40X its a pretty good camera

the D200 camera is good but its definetly showing its 2 yr age vs the 40D, I have not been reading up on the Nikon new releases coming up but I am sure they have something that will compete against the 40D

D40 -> D40x -> XTi -> D80 -> 30D -> 40D ~ D200 -> 5D -> D2x -> 1D -> 1Ds

but again, it also depends what you're looking for...the 5D is pretty bare, but it has insane noise control with the full frame. the 40D seems pretty nuts on paper...but you have to wait and see

I am still researching. Right now the D200 looks like the right choice for me so far. Hmmm.. I wonder what is next from Nikon?

the D80 was just released so dont expect anything until next fall.

You mean don;t expect anything to replace the D80 until the fall, right. I hear Nikon is about to announce the D3 and D300. I have no specs on the D300 but I'm pretty sure it will beat the pants off the newly announced 40D.

Now, to those who question comparing the D200with the 5D, I suggest you flip over to this dpreview page: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/NikonD200/page25.asp

The D200 has wi-fi, USB 2.0, % battery remaining, custom menus, image commenting, 22 RAW image buffer (@ 5fps), faster sync speed, magnesium budy with weather seals for 50% the price of the 5D.

The only disadvantage of the D200 is the smaller sensor size and associated high-ISO noise.

And see how they stack after (if) Nikon announces the D300 tomorrow...

I never understood why people always compared the 30D/40D to the D200 and then the 5D. Each camera is meant for a different market and consumer. Nikon and Canon also both stated that they aren't directly competiting with that product line.

Ive heard rumors of the D3 and D300. and they seem like quite a stretch. we will see when the announcement comes.

the 5D is pretty dated vs the D200. but is still pretty much the number 1 contender for low noise by far.

it all depends what your needs are.

yes, thank-you for pointing that out...too many people are nikon/canon haters

NONE of nikons and canons cameras can really be directly compared.

each model from each company is one step higher then the other in price and options.
