Any photographers in here?

Yes, very dramatic. So you have press credentials to the game? A lot of photographers shoot from a kneeling position since actually seeing grass in the frame doesn't add much drama.

As for DoF, I think you'll shoot what you can get as far as f-stop is conserned. You'll be wide-open or close to it in order to keep your shutter speed up. DoF willnot be a primma consideration. Maybe you meant composition...autofocus will make sure stuff is in focus. Make sure you have fast glass.

Im waiting on a 70-200 2.8 to come in (backordered). Im going to leave it on 2.8 with 400 or 800 ISO (b/c the 1st game is at night, afterwards I'll adjust the ISO accordingly) and let the camera do the rest. Yep I'll be on the sidelines for this yrs Bowden Bowl.

No that's an equipment purchase I can support. You'll benefit from the crop-factor on that one. You will probably need a second body with something shorted mounted for those catches. I really am envious of your game access. Put it to good use and be sure to show us the results.

a couple of the pictures I took today at the botanical garden here in DC

by the way (hi)

Nate, I like the second image; very intersting perspective to find in a place full of big leaves. They all seem to run together but you saw an interesting angle.

I was there last November and took these pics:

Im very excited for the opportunity coming up. I've been on the sidelines only 2 other times since '04. This yr I hope to be there every home game. The only cameras I have available for wideangle is a Pentax ZX-10 or a K1000 (both 35mm) They are both in brand new condition but Im reluctant to go back to 35mm. I wouldn't mind owning a used Pentax body as a 2nd but the lens is putting me back. I could probably afford it right now but I can't justify it yet.

I'll definately share some pics on here. We still have six months.

Ah yes...San Fran. I took this shot 8 years ago. At the time when 2MP cameras cost an arm and a leg.

Yeah, that was a tough call. I did really like that image, and I knew there were other car images...but, its too late now.

EDIT: This is another one I considered

yea, but with shasta's being pretty neat and very similar, it probably wouldn't be a good call ;)

It gets even worse then that. I was considering this, which is the one I was having trouble loading last night. I took this shot March 25, 2006, but its very similar to shasta's:

I can't wait to do a speed shot in the 8.

It looks like shasta used a window-mounted camera mount. I used a 2.5"dia PVC pipe with through holes for the headrest posts. Threaded a 1/4' 20 bolt and mounted the camera. The mount is fairly stable with a P&S camera, but no good wiht an SLR, I've found. I think it has to do with the amount of shake with no one in the passenger seat, as well as the distance of the front lens element from the axis of rotation. It seems to ampify the movement.

I've considered other options but I can't seem to noodle something that will work better with a heavy SLR.

the way the photo contest is going I'm thinking I should of submitted the tach pic, lol

No comment about that tach pic...

EDIT: I mean the one that was submitted not yours. Although, yours is out of focus, too. I don't want to be a picture snob, but focus is there for a reason.

EDIT 2: See Altspace's current sig for a fine example of long-exposure-yet-in-focus photography.

you guys can check out my site..

let me know what you guys think! it's pretty new.so I'm still working on a few things. criticism welcome! thanks!

I checked out your new site. I think its a good start. I like the albumn tool, but there are better looking ones out there, IMO. I'm not really familiar with the names, but I know there are many that are free and easy to integrate into your site.

About the pictures: I think you have to decide what you want your site to be. A showcase for your best work. A portfolio for professional or educational purposes. A running photoblog of your most recent work. An online family-style albumn with tons of pics organized by event or holiday family and friends can view.

Knowing the purpose can help you better select which images to post on the web. I went through this when I got a smugmug account. At first I put tons of stuff on there. Then a ton of holiday/vacation/family stuff. Then just a few galleries to serve as a portfolio. Since I didn't really have a clear idea of what I wanted the site to be, it was very difficult for me to determine which pictures to show.

Anyway, I hope this helps. Visit my somewhat neglected smugmug site here:

Nope. Manfrotto 055CLB pod / 141RC head and positioned it as low I could get it with the passenger seat removed. Then pulled the column up just above the floor to reduce any vibs and used a 20mm prime. Manually shooting on a 2 sec timer. Canon Mark Series.
