Any photographers in here?

If you go there take a trip out to Bay Bulls and take one of the boat tours to see the whales / birds, I used this company and I was very happy.

obviously goto signal hill, also just outside of St. Johns goto Cape Spear they have old WW2 bunkers / Uboat canons out there

In Alaska we have some places with lots of birds in a small place, I've tried to take a picture but I can never get it to turn out... nice "lotsobirds" pic.

I'm either zoomed in too far and lose the scale, or I'm zoomed out and lose the details, the dame birds up here blend in too good.

you need good equipment to get good bird pics for sure, or anything that small far away

I have a 400mm lens and thats really to small but I dont have the huge $$$ to fork out for a 500-600mm lens

for instance this pic is a 100% crop of the one below, still a little to soft for my liking but that was 100+ft away and in a bobbing boat so I cant complain to much I guess

already have that, it distorts the image to much for 100% crops :) my af still works no problem but its slower and in a bobbing boat = alot of oof shots, I did that and every single one of them was oof :(

Yeah, my 70-300mm just doesn't seem to cut it for wildlife, although it works much better than my 18-55mm kit lens. (Nikon D50)

i posted a couple of these pics that i took from our doublecross in the "awesome autocross pictures" thread:

i was not prepared for this one, i wish i could have gotten a better location w/o the sign in the way

anyways, please let me know what you think. i used a nikon d50 w/ 70-200mm zoom, and i just did some little touch-ups in PS to help with my lack of knowledge about white balance and motorsports

this was also shot with basically the sun directly above us, almost no clouds, and the cones seem a little too bright, and this was my second time doing motorsports (much much better than the first time)

and here is the rest of them if you are interested:

Had a very quick rain shower that lasted only a few minutes. I caught the end of it from my backyard.

Wow, Props to all you people. These are some of the best pics i've ever seen.

Can someone recommend a nice digital camera for about $300-$400. something with all the features (whatever that means...) something slim and stylish? Also something able to take short video clips?
I apologize for being a noob.

I think you did a great job covering the event. The sign hurts the composition, but in the future I wouldn't worry about covering the starting line; its never the most exciting part of the track. For autocross you are usually limited in your positions unless you have a really long lens. It looks like you did a good job of moving around.

The only thing you can do is get to the course at least 1 rungroup before the cars you want to shoot. Practice on those cars and then carry out a plan to shoot the cars you want (i.e. first run shoot at Corner 2, second run shoot at the slalom, etc).

As for the cone color, its certainly a little saturated, maybe oversaturated since there seems to be some detail lost there. Without knowing your workflow it would be difficult to know where that problem started. If its present in every picture it might very well be a camera setting. The D50 allows you to adjust for hue and maybe one other color setting (saturation?). Also check any curves adjustment you have which may happen to pump up just at the level of the cones. De-saturating that orange slightly may make them stand out less. A simple step can be added to your action in PS which will limit the desat to only the color of the cone.

A few pictures from my trip to Crazy Ray's Used Car Parts on Saturday. This place is where cars go to die; ripped apart, header from engine block in an extremely indiscriminate way. Its where Dr. Frankenstein would go if he was an auto mechanic. I would have taken hundreds of pictures if they weren't so militant about their no-camera policy...

I apologize for being a noob.

There's so many options that you really need to do the research yourself for your needs. All I can say is if you want a camera that's small and portable, then obviously that limits some of it's capabilities. Really the key to good photography is not just about the camera, but your own eyes. Enjoy.

you guys are slacking, no pics in 5 days !!! lol

couple I took of my cats earlier today testing out my new canon 135 2.8 SF lens. I am very happy with it for a $200 lens
