I know he's not very sharp, but it was a 30 second exposure, and I captured it completely by accident, but I still love it.

mutha fuggin milky way spiral!!!! I've seen awesome car shots like this in cali where they have nice, high ridges to get the cars elevated and get more sky in the background. Alas, there are too many tall trees to get the kind of shot in my area. Kudos!

How do you do that without getting any star-blur?

Your exposure shouldn't be longer than thirty seconds, or you'll start seeing trails.

star trails depend on the focal length. with a very long focal length, the time goes way down. with my 400mm, I can start seeing trails at a 5 second exposure. The wider the lens, the longer you can go.

It can't be that hard. Find a place away from a major metropolitan area without any light pollution.
