Any photographers in here?

Couple shots from the falls in town. Water was kind of low, kind of disappointed.

Since I have Lambo on the brain. ;) A good friend of mine works at a Lambo/Bentley dealership. These were taken with the standard 18-55mm kit lens. My first shots with the DSLR.

ok, I HAVE to ask.. how in gods name did you get the car so crip and the road blurred in that last pic?

Move the camera with the vehicle. Car stays in focus, background is blurred. Most shots I pre-focus on a spot at the track, which works when there isn't passing or amateur drivers who don't hit the apex repeatedly. This method won't have to rely on the camera's autofocus system, which sometimes isn't fast enough or accurate. Luckily I'm using the 1D MKII, which has one of the better autofocus systems on the market today. Even though it's a 5-year old body, it's still very capable. The above shot was using the camera's AF system on AI Servo mode, which adjusts quickly.

On this shot, I pre-focused on the finish line where the rear wheel is:

To get an in-focus, crisp pan, the only factor is your technique moving the camera with the vehicle. There are times when your technique is perfect but if you're relying on the camera's autofocus system might not be accurate.

so basically he kept the damn thing perfectly framed while the exposure was open? yeah, my hand/eye coordination is good, definitely not that good.

No

You move at the speed of the car while shooting at a high frame rate. Your whole body follows the car.

need a bit of work still. Your water is over exposed. Plus I'm not feelin the picture. composition-wise...stilll needs a lot of work. They just feel like snapshots that you took while walking by it. Feels rushed.

like so?

I used a 350D (Rebel XT) with a 28-135mm IS lens.. Shot in AI Servo mode as well. Yeah yeah I know the fence is in the way and detracts from the picture. :(

that's a tough one because your pan doesn't follow the car exactly. For crisper photos, you want to be as close to 90degrees as possible.

If they're coming at you, you can still get a pan but the "blur" isn't as significant unless you drop the shutter speed even further. I do the front quarter pan on occasion just to mix up the photos

I'll toss in a wide angle pan every once in awhile

on shots like that last one i have trouble keeping multiple items in focus. i'm usually shooting through some kind of fence or netting too though.

One of the benefits of having a media pass is not having to deal with those obstructions :)

Though, you can shoot through them at a large aperture and they won't show up in the image.

The 3 car pan is tough as you mentioned, but one thing you have to remember is that when you shot at a wider angle and your field of view increases, you keep more in focus than when shooting a telephoto, where the FOV is more narrow.

no, it's a booty cam. Take photos of hot girls as they walk away from your vehicle.
