Next years race season I'll have a real camera and dump this P&S box. Here's the best I could do with it.

Josh, how much SLR experience do you have? I remember when I switched from my PnS to SLR, it was a bit of a learning curve before I got the hang of it. There's so many different settings and features, it took a while for me to get used to the infinite adjustablility.

That said, since Josh's ability with his PnS is better than my best with my SLR, I can't wait to see what he's capable of with one...

Thx guys. I have some flexibility with my Minolta. I mostly adjust for ISO, white balance, and shutter priority. There's a full manual mode as well. When I bought it 5 years ago it was the best P&S camera on the market without going to full SLR. Check it out: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/KonicaMinoltaA200/

However after learning so much since then I see all of its limitations. Such as ISO, it only has 50,100,200,400,800. And the purple color fringing is terrible. I must admit I do a lot of post processing at times in order to get the color/effect I want. I'd like to minimize that with the SLR.

I just got a Nikon D300s & I love it. First subject was Smokey the cat.

My cell phone takes better pictures than that now... lol

Technically my first camera was a film pos, but that was the first camera I had when I wanted to get serious about photography...

hate to break it to y'all, but photos of your pet cat/dog/lizard/fish/goat/etc. are usually not very interesting. of course everyone thinks that THEIR pet is the cutest one in the world! it is more difficult for the photographer to have an objective perspective of the image if there is a personal or emotional connection with the subject(whatever the subject may be). anyway, just something to think about while shooting/posting...

But isn't that part of an artistic review of a piece / subject? Its always the interpretation of the viewer regardless of what the photograph / artist thinks, but still to understand the content. Sure, makes the artist's job easier when they can provide a work of art that can be identified right from the start, but with art, there is no perfect right or wrong, so creativity steps in and provides the viewer with more to think about.
