hows my composition/framing?
I think I nailed this one...

A vertical composition might have worked better for this shot.

I'd like to see more of the trees at the bottom, as well as more of the sky. This way there will be something of interest other than the mountains in the distance. It will also increase the feeling of depth.

The out-of-focus branches at the bottom and sides distract attention away from the main subject.

i see your point with the last pic, i usually try yo use the mountains as eye candy instead of the subject...

Skyline Drive & Dark Hollow Falls

Went to Skyline Drive yesterday and drove about half-way in to Dark Hollow Falls. About .75mi (and 400ft of decent) from the Drive lies the cascading series of falls that drop about 70 feet. Even though I've always lived within an hour's car ride from Skyline Drive, this was my first time visiting the park. After a little internet research I figured that a trip to Dark Hollow Falls would give me a nice taste of the Drive as well as an opporunity to get good pictures of water falls.

I'm still working on the pictures and may have more to post. I noticed some inconsistancy with the white balance; I probably should have set it to custom. The falls were in shadows while some of the foliage was in the strong late-day sun. C&C welcome!

That stream owns an Olympus camera of mine. The strap broke and it dropped in one of the rapids areas about two years asgo. Hard work to get some good shots. Yours are nice (especially #3)

Thanks, I like six a lot, too. Not only was there a stick in the way (not too big that I couldn't move it, but I that goes against my no-impact rule for the great outdoors), but there was a log that accumulated som mud and grass from that last heavy rain that looked pretty ugly. The log is at the top of the closest water fall. I included this picture because it minimizes the visual impact of the muck, but other angles were not so lucky. At the time I took the pictures I was too focused on the falls to really notice details like that. Anyway, I hope to go back to Skyline drive soon both for more water falls and Fall foliage, and also for the drive!
