Any photographers in here?

let me know what you think of those lenses. I am toying with the idea of getting a wide angle zoom lens with a 2.8 aperture... I don't know what I want for sure, but post up some stuff.

i've got a canon 16-35mm f/2.8. understandably, i end up shooting landscapey stuff with it and the "f/2.8" part is kind a worthless! i have been in a few situations where the low f/stop came in real handy, but it's not common. so, i suppose it depends on your use(s) for it otherwise the extra f/stop might not be worth the extra $.

with a crop sensor, I find I need the wide side of most of my lenses all the time. Plus I already have a 50mm 1.8. and the glass is way better quality too.

It's not so much about shooting wide open on an ultra wide angle lens, it's more about sharpness. The 16-35 2.8L will be sharper at 4.0 than the 17-40 4.0L at 4.0.

Taken 2 years ago at Waterton Park. I was just going through some of my old pictures over the past years.

Got an invitation to go photograph some kite surfers Tuesday. I really wish I could get access to a good telephoto!!

I just received an email from someone asking permission to use my photo in a company brochure. I need some help... Should I ask for money, is it appropriate to, and how much (if so)?

Since they indicate the possibility to want more photos, how should I handle this?

Here's the email I recieved:
Dear Mr Fink,

I hereby want to ask for the permit to use the following photo in a company brochure:
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Bomb...0957232/&sid=6c41cc1aacbd505a9b045dd195404da8

We're a small business in the aviation industry and we like the photo very much.

Please tell me the conditions to use the photo and if there is the possibility to use more pictures of you.

Yours sincerely, Nadine Grabow

I'd ask for a business name. Then I'd research them. It wouldnt be smart to ask for much money if any, as there are TONS of people taking pictures of planes who would probably just want the photo credit. Nice pic though. If the company looks like it can afford a little bit of money for the pic, ask them for some dough!

I would ask how long they'd be using it for as well. If they're going to run it for a year in their brochure then you can get them a license. Or you can just tell them to buy it for a flat price, they can use it according to your terms, but you still would OWN the photo to do as you wish.

example: sell it for 100 bux, they can use it on the brochure for a year or 8 month or whatever and include a bunch more terms in there if you want. Or you could totally be nice and just let them have it and work out a deal for next time guaranteeing that they ahve to buy their photos from you.

I think you should give it to them for either free and let them know that for future pictures you will charge so much per picture for a period of time

or just go ahead and make a buck.
