Any News On The 2011 MS3?

Has anyone heard of changes for the 2011 Mazdaspeed 3? I wonder if there are any trim changes or power upgrades for this model.

Rumors of Godzilla

My friend just got back from a Mazda regional sales and marketing meeting and he says that the new 2011 1/2 MS3 is code named Godzilla. It will have a turbocharged 2.5 liter engine and the "REVO knuckle" from the Focus RS to limit torque steer. HP and torque to be slightly over 300 and have HID headlamps as standard equipment.
I'm hoping it will blow blue fire from the exhaust to singe the competition.

im sorry the only thing i consider godzilla is the GTR, if some hatchback with only 37 more horses is godzilla for mazda, then thats fail

Surprised there'll be one. Kind of a long run for Mazda and their "Speed" line. Do hope they get rid of that stupid smile. A co-worker of mine was seriously interested, but didn't want to drive something that looked like it came from "Cars".

Mazdaspeed Alive and Well, We Predict Miata is Next Product

The spunky Mazda brand has been in the news a lot lately with the new-for-’09 Mazda 6, the new-for-’10 Mazda 3, the reinvigorated 2009 MX-5 Miata, and, of course, the freshly revealed U.S.-spec Mazda 2. But knowing what we know about Mazda’s performance-oriented hook, we’re always looking for a little more Speed, i.e. factory-tuned Mazdaspeed variants, which have in the past included the 3, 6, and Miata.

Actually, we’re wondering where all the speed has gone. Besides the Mazdaspeed 3, which currently holds a spot on our 10Best list, there are no factory-tuned products in the 2010 model range, this in spite of Mazda boasting more models from which to sprout a Speed version than ever before.

So at the L.A. auto show I asked Robert Davis, veep of product development for Mazda North American Operations, about the dearth of speed in the zoom-zoom brand. “Mazdaspeed is alive and well,” he said. But other than reminding me that Mazdaspeed makes dozens of performance-enhancing parts for its current models, he would say nothing other than that “the next Mazdaspeed product is under development.”

So what will the next one be? Well, bearing in mind that until the current Mazdaspeed 3, Speed variants have been “world cars” used chiefly as marketing devices intended to rekindle interest in a given product during its later years, we can rule out certain cars altogether, including the brand-new Mazda 2 and the still-pretty-fresh 6 (which isn’t a world car anymore, a fact that impedes the business case). Speed versions of the CX-7 and CX-9 would be ridiculous—though fun. This leaves the aging RX-8, which has been supported by a full raft of Mazdaspeed parts and already has a hopped-up R3 model in the range, and the ever-fresh Miata. Our money’s on the Miata, which still has a few good years and plenty of potential left in its chassis for something even zippier.

Next Mazda RX-7 stays rotary 13 May 2010

Mazda is working on a new rotary engine for an RX-7 successor that can run on petrol or diesel - and offer much-improved fuel consumption compared with the recently discontinued RX-8.

The two-stroke 16X engine is designed to rectify the shortcomings of Mazda’s most recent rotary powerplant, including its high oil consumption. Sources in Japan say the new unit has achieved significant improvements in fuel efficiency.

But the final go-ahead has not yet been received from Mazda’s top executives. The firm is still working out how to attain the best combination of performance, economy and emissions, and needs to address the rotary’s lack of torque in the mid-range. In its current state the 16X is expected to give the RX-7 around 300bhp and enable it to reach 60mph in under five seconds.

Mazda’s R&D department has invited several external drivers and racers to test RX-7 mules, and the design team has sought feedback at customer clinics.

Much of the push towards another rotary-engined sports car comes from Mazda USA. A recent independent survey revealed that demand for an affordable rotary-powered sports car is still as strong as it’s ever been in the US. It’s been suggested that were it not for American demand for the car, the project would have been shelved.

Any more info on the supposed 2.5L turbo? 5cyl from the RS? New DISI 2.5L? Non-DI 2.5L? Sounds kinda like marketing speak and I'm skeptical. The codename is somewhat laughable, as well.

The 2.5L Turbo and 'RevoKnuckle' has been talked about for a while now. I don't think it's going to happen.

No lie! I read something somewhere that there would be some sort of problem with that, but I forget the details.
