Any interest in one-touch moonroof circuit?

A coworker and I are working towards creating modules to allow for one-touch open and/or close of the moonroof in the 6 (and potentially other cars). If we are able to create them (which I expect to be able to), I would be building them to order and selling them on here. Is there any interest for this? Or should I just slap something together for myself and not bother looking for a "best" solution?

Price would probably be around $30, depending on what parts end up being needed

Ideally, it would be be one-touch open, and one-touch close. I make no guarentee that the final product would end up like that, but thats what I'm shooting for. Things have been crazy the last month and a half (have a new daughter), so I haven't even tested the prototype that we were working on in my car yet. Obviously, I would be getting AMM status (already pre-approved with Antoine) once I decide to move forward.

i would buy it.. would it be on a switch that u could hide away somewhere in the dash?? i never use the tilt option on the sunroof and i hate holding it and waiting for it to open so this sounds promising.

it would go inside the housing where the switch is. basically its just a circuit that gets wired inline in the switch area. you would still use the normal buttons.

Congratulations on the new addition to your family.

One thing to consider for this is the safety feature of having the roof open if it meets resistance while closing. I know there have been other people who were going to do this, and they shied away because of liability concerns. I don't think the problem would necessarily be the initial purchaser who installs the unit, but someone down the line who buys the car used. Just something to think about.

Would this work similarly to the auto-window feature (push a little and you control the amount of opening/closing, push to the click and it does it all the way), or would it only operate in an all-or-nothing mode? I would be interested as long as I didn't lose the ability to just open it a little.

thats part of what i'm working with. it depends on how i'm able to get it to work. i am using a simple resistor and cap method for the open, and a diode/timer combo for close (anti-pinch).

in the rx8 (what my coworker has) they have a factory auto-open. this circuit will stop that from opening when pressed.

i'm gonna have to play around and see how they interact before I can give an answer.

Since the RX-8 has one, have you looked at just modifying one of those switches (or wherever the circuit is located)? That would be cool if you could keep it factory.

You should just be able to model it after the circuit used for the MS6 windows. These have auto-up/down as well as the protection built into them for safety. The switches used in the door may just have a specific block as well as a limit switch to detect resistance on the window. This shouldn't be a difficult deisgn, mostly finding the parts and making them fit and safe. Good luck with your project.

cool. looks like i will move ahead with this and get my ass in gear testing :)

yeah, i was using that as a starting point for this. I was gonna just do the one touch open for myself using his design, and then my coworker informed me that someone used to make one-touch close for the rx8, so we dug a little deeper and came up with the current design.

If you could get a module for install in a P5, you'd have another customer here...$30 is well worth the hassle of that how-to!
