Another new member

Hello everybody!

My name is Will. I am from Western New York (Buffalo) but have lived in Georgia for the last 3 years. I am an Infantry Sergeant in the Army and am stationed at Fort Benning.

I am intending to become the owner of a new 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 within the next few weeks. I currently own a 2006 Scion tC with a supercharger. It has spent 6 of the last 9 months in a shop getting the engine built after destroying the stock one, rebuilding the supercharger 3 times, and various other BS things. I have s buyer lined up and as soon as that sale goes through, it is time to move on to something light years better.

I have been reading as much as I can and absorbing some of what I have read. Yes, I like the 07-09 body style much more, but I do not want to go used, and I like what I hear about the handling improvements. I promised myself that I would not do any crazy mods to this one, but you know as well as I do that once the bug has bitten you theres no going back.

Things I am already sizing up:

Lots of stuff. Primarily, the first few will be addressing the Downpipe and intake. I am still digging to find what is availible for tuning, but I do not want to do an intercooler, full exhaust, etc. until I am deeper into my warranty.

Welcome aboard, Sarge. (usa) There's loads of info on mods posted for the 07-09 MS3, most should apply to the 2010 model as well. I guess most ppl start w/ a CAI to let the engine breathe better [stock airbox is quite restrictive]. After that, some spring for improvements to the shifter and to the motor mounts. Since you've got modding experience I won't presume to tell you what to get. Get ready for some spirited drives! Even stock this lil go-box is quite the speedster!

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! Ill see what I can do about getting some photos and what not up, and I will be sure to keep digging though the billions of posts on here. This is pretty intense next to my regular, local forum (nyspeed.com).

Mattj3636, I'm from Orchard Park and went to UB for a couple years.


I also wanted to ask if there is a "Common Mods" thread or something like that that has a collection of reviews on things like shifters, motor mounts (I've heard the stories), intakes, downpipes, Accessport, etc.. I think that would get me running in the right direction.

but im not too sure about common mods in general,

but i know there are a lot of threads on people taking polls and asking what are good mods to start off with and they lead to discussions on which ones better and what not, im sure you good to a simple search for something along the lines of beginning mods or something

otherwise i would just search for individual mods and read on what you prefer, i can give you my input, TMW short throw with the bushings was one of the best mods iv done, and from what iv read, there are more people using the TMW than the Cobb, however i read a thread a little bit ago about a new STS that came out for a really good price, forgot the name however..

i also had the TRZ dogbone polyurethane rear motor mount, another fantastic mod but i know a lot of people have different ones so you might want a search on that..

BPV, the Forge is a winner among the forums, the HKS SSQV also has some users, and a couple other, but i know Forge is most commonly used, as far as i can tell.

Intakes, there are MANY threads on intakes and arguing short ram or cold air, big names are the CPE CAI and the Cobb SRI... i know a lot of people use the Cobb but youll want to search on that...

otherwise, tthats just a little input but the search button will work wonders for you man
