another new introduction (and then some)

Hello all,

I just bought a black mica P5 2002.5 (I believe). It already had some mods to it (Injen CAI, exhaust(not sure what kind) exel rims, nankang tires. It is an automatic with the clutchless shifting. It has been a fun car so far. I just wanted to introduce myself and say that I am glad that I stumbled across this site. It has so much info that I am almost overwhelmed not to mention getting some carpel tunnel using the mouse scrolling through here!

I have noticed a few things that I am wondering about. first, when I was checking under the hood, the coolant tank seems to be very loose and almost looks like it was modded to fit. Is this something that would happen after installing the CAI?

Also, the exhaust sounds nice around town, but has the dreaded drone on the highway. Is there a way to quiet the inside of the car? or should I think about going back to stock on the exhaust?

I am sure there will be more questions as I put in a new audio system soon!

yes the coolant tank had to be moved due to installing the cai, the bracket to move it to where it is now comes with the cai. If you could take a pic of the muffler itself or somewhat underneath the car we should be able to tell...i couldnt from the pic you have of the backside. If the exhaust is a cat back then i would get a new one, if it replaces the midpipe and got rid of a cat, have a nice hi-flow cat welded in, or a silencer in the muffler. Or get a new exhaust, again its hard to give advice on this w/o knowing if you have a header back, catback, axleback etc.

if you lookit his pics, there is no aftermarket header...

that tip looks mazdaspeed axlebackish... if you want a quieter alternative there are several

the racing beat CBE
greddy evo2
and the magnaflow.

all of those you would barely know the car was running.

i notice you have that red tape under the emblem... is that to cover up a dealer emblem? if so that vinyl is easily removed by heating it up with some high wattage halogen lamps, or w/ a hair dryer. just peel it off, and claybar the remaining residue off.

Thanks for the replies. I will try to get a few photos of the exhaust up in the next couple of days...The red tape is actually the dealer emblem. It has just been to cold here in ohio to mess with taking it off. I will certainly remove it once the weather warms up.

so with the coolant tank being moved, does it matter that it feels pretty loose in the new spot? Is there a way to make it a bit more secure than just the one attachment point?

Welcome and nice looking car. I will agree that the exhaust tip appears to be the Mazdaspeed axleback (made for the P5 and not to be confused with the sedan axleback).

It seems to be 50/50 with that exhaust....either you love it or you don't.

If you are looking for something quieter I will second the Racing Beat exhaust or if you don't want to spend that much for a full catback you can search the f/s threads for an axleback from the 03 (round tip) or 03.5 (oval tip) MSP sedan.

I guess I could have my wife start posting instead of me. Since she has fallen in love with my new "boy car"(as she calls it). She loves driving it. I guess that is not all bad that she loves it, it will make it alot easier to keep modding it.
