another motor gone bye-bye

I was crusing about 45 in 5th gear and my motor just blew up, that b**** flew parts , left and right and a whole lotta smoke. After that happen , all i gots to say is that you guys better take care your s***. (headshake

This was a stock motor? Or were you modified?

My brother blew up his MP3 about a month ago. (Turfburn) But it was time for that engine to go, it had been boosting alot on stock internals.

i think it was 41 mph where you were supposed to shift from 4th to 5th for optimal gas mileage, i read it in the manual.

isnt 45 kinda slow for 5th?

I switch into fifth very early. I really don't take the rev's too high when driving normally. If I am going 40, I will most likely be in 5th gear; I like to save gas :)

He wasnt stock Look at his history of posts . I bet he spiked the boost too high with his boost contrller and no engine management or forged internals to go with his other mods.

The posts i saw only tell a story of a MSP with a lot of problems....Poor guy:(

I go 45 in 5th. I don't downshift unless I have to use boost to speed up or if the rpms go under 2k
Why would you leave the rpms so close to 2K in any gear?? There is almost no power...It actually seems a little dangerous to do that...

think of a bike. think of the load you have when you go high gear going slow. thats how hard it is to turn the engine.

It's flat here, not many hills... so basically if I'm just cruising around I'll keep rpms low. But, if I do need to speed up I downshift.

I think it's a habit. I learned to drive stick in a truck that actually has power under 3k rpms.

Back on topic. I read in another thread that you blew your tranny too. I hope they don't say you abused your car and that they will not fix the engine.

hmmm the load on the engine @ low rpms is very destructive...thats why you hear more detonation in that range ~3000 rpms.

You can easily destroy a motor on high gears because you are stressing it out.
But you can break the transmission on 1st and 2nd gear easily because those are the gears that receive more stress, it accelerates the car faster.
