2010 Mazda 3 Sport Five Door 6 speed
Left Lane News has photos and a terse article about the new 3 hatchback. Based on the photos, I totally hate it. It appears Mazda designed it to have absolutely no rear viability and to have the smallest hatch opening and cargo room possible.

There is no longer a reason for me to wait for this product. I want a hatchback because I want a hatchback, not a car with a hatch pretending to be a coupe. I may wait and see what sort of closeout deals I can get on a 2009 when this horrid things rolls onto US dealer lots. :(

i like it... the grill needs a bit of tweaking the fog light area is to big but overall very sleek.

Not really liking the RX-8 nose...it lacks character above the air intake. I'd be surprised if the busier-than-it-needs-to-be sculpting on the lower sides really makes it to production. The character line and concave surfaces on the hatch somehow remind me of the 1st-gen Subaru Tribeca, which isn't exactly a compliment. But.... it looks like a natural evolution for the current 3.

don't really like the renderings but maybe the production looks better in life. anyways, doesn't matter since i'm getting a SPPEEEDDDD.

I must be the only one that LOVES it. This looks better than anything I imagined the new 3 to be.

I was planning to wait a year and get a 2011, but I don't know if I'll be able to resist this thing.

Make mine in bright blue.

On top of not liking the lack of rear windows and hatch size, I think it looks pretty ugly and too convoluted to me, like the styling of 1990's Pontiacs. But then again my car stlying taste are not the norm, I love things like the Jetta Mark IV Wagon, 60 Series Land Cruiser, late 60's Novas and non-Outback Legacy Wagons. I hate extra lines, bulges and fake air effects on cars.

I'm diggin' it! Looks pretty good to me. I'd pick one up as long as they don't mess with the power and handling!!

I like it, but I'd prefer the front grille a little higher, more like it is in the current production 3s.

It has a somewhat Alfa Romeoish look, if you have seen some of the latest hatchbacks from them.

If the engine is going from 2.3 to 2.5 (I bet DISI: http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/0...disi-mazdas-version-of-the-new-generation-of/) and the power close to 200hp, as mentioned elsewhere in the forum, it is going to be sweet, as long as they do not increase the weight and decrease fuel economy.

Actually I'd love to have a lighter car and with a slightly different weight distribution.

Not bad, not bad.... I hope the production car will have better looking rims, though (uhm)

Definitely not feeling the new looks. Not to mention what seems to be added weight and who knows how they will tune the engine. Thing definitely looks like it needs AWD and some serious hp. Guess we wont know until the official release.

To those that said they didn't like the hatch opening.... how much wider to you want it to open... it looks to go to the edges of the car.

As far as AWD. It's not about need. It's about want. I've been spoiled by a RWD and then an AWD vehicle. AWD is much more fun than FWD and I know RWD isn't even remotely an option. Plus those of us in the north like the AWD for winter. FWD will get you where you are going in the snow, heck even RWD will do it if you aren't a total fool. It's just a much more calm drive with AWD. (Plus I don't have to shovel the drive).

AWD will only shoot the cost up and you won't have the same power at the wheels due to inefficient drive train loss.

I'm will to pay the price and the power loss is small enough that it is far outweighed by the benefits.

This is one of those preference things, like color. I won't try to convince anyone to buy AWD; it's just what I prefer.
