Android bluetooth problem: Upon connection, phone appears to be in call

When my phone connects with the CX-5 (when I start the CX-5), the head unit thinks the phone is in a call and shows the in-call screen but I can't "hang up". Hence, I cannot play my music through the head unit. I have a workaround but I wanted to know if any of you have the same issue.

This problem started since 4.4.2 (now updated to 4.4.3 and did not solved the problem). I have a Nexus 5.

Thanks

That's curious. Is it running stock AOSP, or something custom (like cyanogen, omnirom, etc)? I've done a lot of bluetooth/android work, and I don't think I've ever encountered that issue. Actually, that's not entirely true... there are some apps which will kick the phone into a "in call" type mode (as far as the head unit is concerned) in order to redirect other phone audio streams (notification/media/alarm) to the head unit. Perhaps you have something like that installed?

In this case, I think I'd call this a issue with your phone, and not with the car. (When I type "your phone", I don't mean the nexus5, or AOSP 4.4.3.. I mean your specific phone and/or the apps on your specific phone. The HU mostly works fine with plain AOSP 4.4.2.)

I am running stock AOSP. To be clear, when my phone connects to the HU, the phone is acting normally (the phone itself does NOT show in-call screen) but the HU thinks (for some reason) the phone is in call hence, showing the in-call screen.

I read something about the latest updates of Google Now taking control of Bluetooth and screwing it up. If you have Google Now, try going into the settings and disabling bluetooth.

I've had something similar happen on a dropped call or text and the phone just sits there. I've had to resort to pulling over and shutting the car down. Fortunately its only happened maybe 2-3 times.
