ALL BECAUSE OF A STUPID HANGNAIL!!!

heres how it went:
so I look at my ring finger and notice a hangnail...and as Im pulling it off I glance up and notice a STOPPED utility truck (you know, the ones with the big ass steel reinforced rear bumbers and solid steel bed) and before I can even say OH S**T

SMASH!

no injuries, just a bent bumper on his truck and an insurance agent telling me my car may be totaled



now just for a second, sit and imagine how bad Im feeling....not only did you wreck an amazing car less than a month after you bought it, but you have to cancel valentines day with your girlfriend (via telephone no less due to the fact that she lives 400 miles away) who you havent seen in a month and wont be able to see for atleast another month....

ALL BECAUSE OF A STUPID HANGNAIL!!!



lol and just to make things even crazier, the only vise I have to help me get over such an occurance... I gave up for lint

Ya it couldve been much worse...the radiatior was laying over the turbo and the turbo was up against the engine pretty tight, but luckily there isnt much work needing to be done to the engine itself. Just a new motor mount, radiatio, FMIC piping, and some bits and pieces here and there...nothing too major luckily

lol I didnt even get a chance to touch my brakes. I remember driving behind the guy for a while and trying to figure out what his lisence plate said for about 4 or 5 blocks and then just giving up on it. wasnt but maybe 5 minutes later I noticed the damn hangnail and looked down for just 2 or 3 seconds.


thats all it took though... I had just enough time to turn my wheel enough to not be a direct hit, plus he had stopped to turn right so thats why everything was so much on that corner of the vehicle rather than straight in the middle


I should be getting a call later today from the shop letting me know whether it will or wont be totaled and how long it will be till I get it back

haha ya I got it off..thats actually what got my attention off the road. with it being so cold outside I only had the window cracked a little bit. So I was looking to my left to make sure I could aim correctly when I [attempted] to spit it out the window.

just after I spit, I look forward again and thats when it happened. I guess if I had been lazy or less anal about keeping my interior clean I wouldve just spit it on the floorboard and seen the guy infront slowing down and I wouldnt be on foot right now

yea..coulda been a LOT worse...like when I wrecked my Integra...glad ur ok..when u sell parts lemme know!!..lol

And yes I walked away with a bloody nose...how we survived is beneath me...u cant see the front...smashed after an impact with a wall...my friend in the jeans and sweater didnt even have a seatbelt on...tryin to find his wallet for the toll!!!

that sucks dude, yea gotta becareful with everything when you're driving i learned it the hard way... its definitely totaled, PLEASE, do not let the bodyshop even try to fix it, the msp's already have plenty of problems... and the engine looks bad enough already, plus the wheel well and the fender looks bad, it wont be the same, and at some point if you want to sell the car after the fix it wont worth anything... so dont even try to fix it, get the check from insurance!!! buy another msp if you'd like, part out your car and sell them on the forums, that was just my 2 cents, and if any bodyshop tries to fix it, they're ripping you off

how would they be ripping me off?? Im not arguing with what you're saying, Im just curious why you think its unfixable? the only NON-cosmetic issues are the radiatior and motor mount. Since the engine shifted back as a whole all they would need to do is remount it and then make sure everything is balanced out properly. Then replace the radiatior/hoses and do a good body stich up and then call it a day

a little paint here and there, then a good alignment and its good to go

i was just thinking like whats better for you, i mean if its totaled you get the check for what its worth, most likely about 15k, insurance does pay good money... but i dont know if your insurance is gonna go up or not after you fix the car and also the value of it drops by a lot... looks bad from the pics though, its your car man take her to a nice bodyshop if you're getting it fixed

whate ended up happening? you gotta love the mazdas, i got my msp because of an accident. I had a 02 protege es and was rear ended on a highway. I had stopped becasue the people in front of me screeched to a stop, dude behind me wasnt paying attention and hit me at about 65 mph, only cost 5000 to fix. Got car back and had it for a week. Driving to get x-rays from that accident to make sure i didnt need therapy ( which I didnt) and an illegal alien (no lie) blew out of a shopping center and hit me head on while I was making a left turn. I had no injuries, car was totalled, he got arrested because of a warrant out on him from Immigration services, and not having a license and then deported. turns out later he had a fake license, bought car insurance ilegally with it and now my insurance and their are fighting it out. Bought my MSP with the insurance check and i can easily say that it was a good thing.

Same here, ironically enough when my i rolled my mp3 in dallas i was less than 2 blocks away from the dealership that i bought my msp from.

If you get a good body shop no one will be able to tell or know it was ever in an accident unless they carfax it first. Looks to be totaled to me though. I've had my share of accidents unfortunately. Good luck with it. I would fix her up if you can. Not many people own MSP. One of a kind.

did it deploy the bags? ive fixed cars that were alot worse than that.. if it did deploy the bags, my opinion, buy it back and part it out on here.. everything would eventually sell from the car!
