and another problem

Check your battery terminals. Make sure they are clean and tight. If they are good, then I would suspect the solenoid is sticking.

Battery is brand new as in almost 2 months I've noticed the cables are rusted which may be a problem and the clicking comes from the passenger side dash and when it clicks u can feel it if ur hand is on the dash it stopped when I got the battery for ahwile but came back worse than before. even if the solenoid is bad why would it start when I pop the hood?

Just out of curiosity has anybody else noticed the enkei and mps stamps on the mp3 rims? There's 4 total tht I could make out including the size and hart they're behind the spokes I just thought it was weird

Don't remember the "mps" but the Enkei stamps are normal; they own the Racing Hart brand.

Sure does unless mines weird. But I'm pretty sure its a lifter now it just gets louder around 3000rpms but it does it through the entire rpm band. Ill be fixing that when I have the money is it worth getting cams? I don't wana spend 400 bucks for 5whp not worth it to me

i know i know seems like i have alot of problems with this car but its actually not even mine its my fiancee or however you spell it she just doesnt take care of it. about 3 months ago it started ticking sounded like a lifter but only did it after about 4000 rpms. i checked the oil it was 3 quarts low put some cheap walmart stuff in it temporaly after 2 weeks i did a real oil change i went with royal purple 10-40 made a noticible power difference i might add. but it quit ticking untill about 2 weeks ago and still only after about 4000 rpms but not all the time i try to make it tick i even wound it all the way out in 3rd rev limiter comes in at 90-95 :) but when she drives it she shifts at about 3500 to 4000 from 1st to 2nd and it ticks sometimes but still not all the time. im hoping with it runing low on oil its just a lifter im not sure if over head cams have them but still im hoping.

ps. to any smart asses yes im making the mistake of getting married :)

Same thing happened to me 7 years ago. Had a j-spec motor from Japan, and my MP3 ECU. No tune = problems. I found that I was low on oil, and had spun a rod bearing, and scratched up my cylinder walls...

well there's no metal in the oil and no power loss. And as far as I know spun rod bearings are loud this is really quiet you have to be listning for it with the radio off. Right now I'm trying to get its start up issue fixed when you go to start it and it clicks its the exact same clicking as if your not pushing in the clutch. But its just weird that if it clicks all I gota do is pop the hood and itl start

Could simply be you hearing the valves ticking (the first issue with the higher RPMs)... it's pretty normal to hear that. (shrug)

As for the other thing, you may have a loose connection on one of the starter wires. Just a suggestion of something to check (bloody annoying to access though). Don't know why it starts with you popping the hood though (something tells me that's just a coincidence).

But why would the valves be that loud? It wasn't always that loud but could just be a mazda thing.

Ill check those wires when I have time it hasn't done it 2 days which is. Odd
My project for today is figuring out where a random blue wire is supposed to go. Looks as if it went to something and some idiot cut it out completely it comes in with a group of wires through the firewall looks like the rest of them go through the dash possibly towards the ecu. Could this be from where they removed the vtcs? I doubt the would leave it hanging there though

Never figured out the blue wire thing I think I'm gona have to pull the dash out to do that and I'm too lazy for that in cold weather. But I figured out a fix for my code I'm just gona do the nonfouler trick. If it works with no cat it should work with a bad one. If it does work maybe itl help some other people with the code not going away :) why I never thought of this ill never know but has anybody else tried it?

No ce light for now :) and you was right checking connection on starter was a major pain but connection was good I'm thinking starter solenoid but are they seperate or built into the starters on our cars? I'm really starting to hate this car

It's part of the assembly. You have to take the starter out (PITA when alone, and still pretty big PITA when you aren't and don't have a lift) and then take it apart (not such a PITA). Pretty sure you have to replace the entire starter (or get it rebuilt), but since I've only done a full swap and not just the solenoid, please don't quote me on that.

I'm just gona do the whole thing I got one priced from federated with a 3 yr warrenty for about 120 after the core charge so not bad. And ya its gona be me on the ground and some jackstands I already looked at it and its gona suck I'm def not lookin forward to it but I'm sick of push startin it

Would a bad coil pack cause a miss at startup for a minute then work fine? I'm assuming it will but I'm not familiar with coil packs

I've finally figured out all of my problems :D starting issue was a messed wire end going to the batt when I pulled the hood latch it did something to help get a connection. Missing on cold starts... well blue smoke helped solve that one I read a thread tht points fingers at bad design on piston rings ima replace those when I replace the head I'm guessing oil is getting on the spark plugs causing bad combustion/miss. Ticking... 90% sure its a lifter it doing it during shifts while rpms are coming down. So hopefully by spring ill be able to get it to make enough power to get out of its own way. I think I'm just gona buy a head and rebuild mine over time

Replacing your head will do nothing to help piston rings since those are in the block... mind you if you have bad valve seals then the ones on a newer/rebuilt one will help there.

I know... I was planing on replacing the piston rings at the same time that way I only have to do it once incase it is the rings id rather not have to park it to tear into the motor twice when I can spend the 80 bucks and not have to worry about it. It makes since to me anyway the blue smoke is either valve seal or piston rings...well usually
