An Ode to the MazdaSpeed

Well MazdaSpeed, we finally did it. We hit 100,000 miles. It seems like only yesterday that we were on the car lot, waiting for the dealer to hand over the keys so we can start making people jealous. It wasn't too long until we had our first accident. I'll never forget that damn blown out truck tire laying in the road, daring anybody to hit it. We hit it like a boss! Anthony did too. Our bad, Anthony. Trevor was there, trying to calm me down because you got messed up. He said, One day, you'll look back at this and laugh, but not today. Asshole.

When I brought you in for repair, the repair guy asked how many miles were on you. I said, 2500. He said, You mean 25,000?
No, 2500. Two thousand, five hundred.
Oh man, you only had this car for a little while!
Yeah, I know..
But once they got done with you, you looked brand new! You couldn't even tell that something had happened.

We made many trips to Florida for the skate park, New Orleans for concerts, and then the road trip to Canada with Anthony. That was one Hell of a drive. You took that drive and made it your b****! You drove from south Mississippi to Toronto, Canada and only turned off to refuel. We went from Mississippi to Canada then to Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, then back to Mississippi! It was awesome.

After all that driving in those big cities, you get hit in a hit-and-run at a gas station in a tiny little country town in Mississippi. When I asked the lady who owned the gas station if her security cameras look over that section of her parking lot, she said no. Only the OTHER side. I was pissed. It was on a Valentine's Day too. Stupid redneck. I hope his tires go flat and he sinks in mud.

Even after all of what we went through together, it was nothing compared to when Heather and I brought Audrianna Jayde into the world. I was happy knowing that not only are you a fine, sport tuned vehicle, you're also able to be a rolling safety vehicle, keeping my family and I safe.

Well MazdaSpeed, it's been a fun 100,000 miles. Here's to 100,000 more!

Cool post! I'm at 78k right now. It'll be a few years before I hit 100k as I'm not putting 20k miles per year on mine anymore.

wtf lol: This is awesome. You were inspired man! I just purchased a true red 08.5 ms3... mine has only 20k miles. But I bought it crashed, from a Florida auto auctions yard, and am almost done restoring it :). I own a 03.5 msp also, and hope this car is as fun as the msp (which I know it is!). My msp is @ 105k, and still runs fine, so as far as I know, your car must be strong and fine too!... I wish you another 100k (at least), of more ms3 adventures and fun. Good luck!!

Very Cool Post.

Coming home with my first speed I was like a kid with a new pupy. Pretty sure I slept the keys clenched tightly in my fists for the first few nights. Sadly this was not to last. Tragedy struck and the car was totalled at 4800 miles. I felt like I watched my pupy get run over by a buss... slowly.

Fortuneately I was able to start over. Moved up to a 08.5 GT.. in true red. The first car was the love of my life. The second one was the $10,000.00 escort you buy yourself to forget the love of your life. :D

I am at ~77k. I drive 100 miles a day to work and back. Her nose is covered in chips and scratches from all the crap on the mass pike, rt 290, rt 95 and rt 495. :( Should have bought the clear bra. Right rocker molding got torn up a 5000 miles. She has a dent in her hood from a midsummer's night drive through the country when a deer made a bad life choice and jumped in front of us. Then there was that time my hot friend's b****y and even hotter sister more or less kicked us out of that party in the city. Justin and I were just were just sitting there wondering what we had and about to drive away when that drunken telphone pole backed right into us! That left a mark.

Best road trip was up to Burlington Vt. 4 hours of well paved highways with banked curves cutting through the mountains. One of the best drives of my life. On a few of the straight aways I let the speed do what it was born to do and man did it fly. Why do all the roads in VT kick ass and all the roads in MA blow?

All in all the little red mazda has worked hard to earn her keep. And she has paid the price for it. But better times are ahead of us. I recently picked up an old beater for my DD. Something cheap and reliable that can take the beatings without a care. And the speed? No more getting stuck behind salt trucks on the highway WHEN ITS NOT EVEN ******* SNOWING!!!! (I HATE that) She now slumbers peacfully in the garrage and only comes out to play.

And even better, she has become my project in the autobody class im taking. So all... or most of those nasty scratches are gonna go away.

^ I did the clear bra after my first drive to work that resulted in a chip. Now I'm wishing I covered the whole car in it. I have chips everywhere sides, roof, hood (past the bra), the paint is a little weak but other than that I love it :D

+1 on the 100 more

you'll be at the leading edge for what goes wrong inevitably rather than the uncharacteristic early failures we all get wrapped around the axle over.

great story, post again before you hit 200 brother!!

wow...your first 2500 miles sounded a lot like mine!...sunlight sliver color too, almost thought i was reading my own story...damn tire!...
