Well, not everyone does what your company does. So it's worth a try.
is it worth your job?

IT guys are smarter than users. That's why users are users and not in IT.
no IT people have the bad attitudes they do because they were the dorks in HS who were picked on and now revel in the little bit of power they have over their former tormentors and are looking to get back at the world, whether consciously or notJust because you are in IT or End user dept doesnt make you smarter. Thats why you guys always have the bad attitude that you do.

Any sys admin worth their weight in cat-5 cable and broken Blackberry holsters is smarter at IT than the average user. I don't know a thing about accounting, so I'm not in the accounting department. I don't know a thing about sales, so I'm not in sales. I know IT, users don't. I have yet to meet a user that knows more about IT than I do. I only have a bad attitude towards users that think they can do my job better or try to go around the rules (like trying to get on AIM after you company blocks it). Are there sarter people than me? Hell yeah, and I'm sure a lot of people are smarter than me at my company, just not in my field. Anyone who follows the rules I don't have a problem with, we get along great, and even hang out with.Im sorry but thats a rather bold statement. Just because you are in IT or End user dept doesnt make you smarter. Thats why you guys always have the bad attitude that you do. Your there to enforce the rules and fix stuff, not pretend your god of the megahertz.
Theres always someone smarter, remember that, itll make you a better technician.
I am in agreement, that circumventing the rules is wrong, and its not worth getting dismissed over.
People get fired for less. It's blocked, and he knows about it. The fact that he took steps to bypass the block shows intent.Ok, let's say his IT department found out and cracked down on him about it, even went to HR. He's not going to be fired for a first offense (I'd assume it's his first). So he does it, and if they say something, he just stops doing it. I'd admit it would be foolish to continue after you were warned by either HR or IT.
