Am I paying too much for a MP3?

Hello, there's an MP3 for sale at a dealership close to me. They say that it's in perfect condition with 3k miles and are asking $17,500. KBB says value is $14,500 and I've seen a post on this board of guys selling their MP3 for $14-15k.

However, I do know that this is a limited edition and hard to find, so $17.5 might be a good price. What do you think? Thanks.

$$$ 4 MP3

I believe that to be a little high, the mileage is good. I have barely over 10,000 miles on mine and I have had mine since last June 2001. Yes the cars are rare, but If I were you and could afford it the Mazdaspeed protege's are going for a little over 20k, but just use your best judgement, If you want this car bad I would haggle the price.(bluemp3)

I would prefer to get the mazdaspeed, but I'm afraid that I will pass on this MP3, then not be able to get one of the 2k mazdaspeeds this fall.

Whats the best way to guarantee I will get one of them? All the mazda dealerships near me sold their MP3 within 1-3 days of receiving them. :( Actually, that's only 2 dealerships that I called. Any ideas though? Should I not be worrying? Thanks.

Mazdaspeed vs MP3?

Well to answer your question about the Mazdaspeed.Best bet if you have the money on had (that's if they require some) reserve one asap! But I just read in the new Car and Driver that it's not much better than the MP3 yes it has more hp and a louder stereo but the writer preferred the MP3 better He couldn't stand the Orange color. So if I was wiery about my choice weight your options. Insurance, monthly payments and such. I think that you would come off better in the long run with the MP3, and think you could always upgrade to the Turbo like many of the other guys have. Me myself I will be doing that or supercharge it when it comes available. I hope this helps with some kind of decision. Let me know if you need more help.:) (bluemp3)

I suggest you call all the dealers around you and see if any of them will take a refundible $500 deposit for the mazda speed .... a dealership is doing that around my city ... that will hopefully guarantee you a shot at the mazda speed ...... then when you have that taken care of .... go to the dealership selling the mp3 and try to haggle you way somewhere close below 16500 .... keep in mind that i'm pretty sure that when more people find out about the mp3 at the dealership, they will have no problems selling it, it just might take them a little time to find someone.

Then if you get the price of the mp3 to a price you like, make ur mind up and either buy it or go with the mazda speed.

They come in black too, or so I've read. :) If it's only orange, I'll have to get a paint job cus that orange is ugly if you ask me. I'm going to call around tomorrow about reserving one. I make 36k/year with $330 mo/rent, so I should be covered cost-wise. I wonder what insurance will be - 21yrs old with no accident.

Sounds like a plan norouzi. If they'll drop to 16-16.5 I may just get the MP3. Thanks.

Well, if it's a stolen recovery then everything changes.

However, I would tend to lean towards picking up the MP3 - after the dealer gives you the Mazda Extended Warranty as part of the deal. Get them down $1000 and then tell them you want the extended warranty. If they hesitate, walk to the door. It will work.

As for walking out the door, I agree with Bob. I walked out the door (physically) four times during my bargaining process, and every time they came back with a lower price until they got to what I wanted to pay. It took four hours, but saved me over $5000 (yes, that's 5k) off of what they had on the window sticker, and that was brand new.
Just don't pay more than you can, and make sure it's all there. Z919 or Z828 stereo, Kenwood sub (tube) and all the "pretty" pieces and suspension parts. Always be cautious about used stuff, and make them throw in a warranty. If they don't they know something is not right and want to burn you. Make sure if you do get it you get a lot of info from here! These guys know way too much about this car! (in a good way)
Good luck whatever you do!

Biggity: Nope, it's the one in Akron, OH. He's assured me twice that it's exactly like it rolled out of the factory, and nothing is missing. I will give it a look-over however, thanks for the warning.

Thanks guys, time to play hardball! :)

Assuming it has the z828, I wouldn't pay over 16,5 for it with a nice warranty.
