Am I being unreasonable?

um after market parts wont give you any good resale value on the car. And 17K was how much I paid brand new....so I think 15K was pushing it.

I say turn it back to stock and bring it into another dealer and I would think they will give you a better price.

And you will never get a good deal on any car that just came out. They will be more happy to work with you when the end of the year models go out. they you can say, "hmmm that car is jsut sitting there taking up overhead." and then you can name your terms.

The whoole "hotlist" thing is bulls***!!! I myself have grudgingly stuffed 500000000 envelopes when we did those stupid sales promotions...telling people with a ****** 98 protege with god-awful milage to "COME ON DOWN" for TOP DOLLAR on their oh-so desirable trade. Of course I would try to get them a good trade price, but dealership managers are the most lame people in the world...and treat the person just like any other person who walked in trying to trade their car.....attempt to **** them. Anyway...screw the SP23....its a Regualr 3S with new paint, stereo, and leather. MSPs are way cooler. Trust.

Yep, I'm a moron too, and went in to find out about it. We have two Mazdas from the same dealer and I thought just MAYBE they really would give us a good deal on our 2002 Millenia. I walked in and told the guy "Don't even mess around here, if you cannot put me in a loaded Mazda 6 wagon with no cash trading hands and not even a penny above my current payment on the Millenia, you're wasting my time and your own cause I'm NOT buying a car if you want cash or increase my payment." Our car is in really good shape and relatively low mileage. He goes "I'm sure we can do that!" An hour later after looking at wagons etc. he comes back with his best deal of ONLY $100 more a month, and a trade in value EXACTLY Kelly Blue Book value. I was so pissed off!!! Then the penis with ears goes back to the sales manager and comes back and says "We can put you in a lease for the same payment! and you'd only owe one $12k balloon payment at the end of 36 months!" Needless to say I left.

My question is do they ever actually get anyone to buy cars under these pretenses???

12.8k is a reasonable. but why loose money just to get in a mazda3 ? msps are much better.

Those "hot list" letters go out to everyone- MSP owners get them, so do 626 owners. The 626 was never a hot selling car, used or new. But they get them.

As for trade, MSP's sold for about $16k right at the end of the run, so start there. Once you drove it off the lot it depreciated about $3k, so that gets you to $13k. Deduct for mileage and wear and tear and a clean one with low miles is $11-12k used as a trade.

You might get more than this in trade, but if you do, you're giving it up on the other end (less discount on the new car). I'm sure you can get a dealer to give you $18k for it on some car that's heavily discounted like an F-150 or something, but you'll pay sticker for that- its all a numbers game.

My favorite is "All Credit Applications Accepted!"

They think ALL of us are morons.

(which is fair, we KNOW all of THEM are morons, too, right?)
