Alternator Upgrade

Is it possible to upgrade the alternator on the 04 Mazda 3s hatch. If so, what does this imply. I thought the alternator was some how linked into the ECU and that would take some kind of reprogramming. Thanks.

I know the alternator is regulated by the ECU on the Proteges and I think the same may apply to the Mazda3. If this is true, it basically means you cannot replace the alternator. The only option is to remove your A/C compressor and install a second alternator dedicated to whatever electronics you wish to power with it.

i have never tryed to install two alternators in a car. Is it something that is fairly easy.

No it is not....and you'll most likely have to sacrifice your air conditioning.

sacrificing the AC is not at all a problem seeing how the AC is horrible to begin with. On top of that I have a fiberglassed HU where the center vents were so now it really takes a long time to cool the car. can you give some kind of brief explanation as to how i can add the other alt. or maybe a site that I can get the info from.
