Alternator noise in the radio HELP !

Ok here's an update i tryed an antenna noise filter that i got from a local store around here and it did NOT help at all . The package it says for noise that are from the engine and that change with the engine speed . Thats what im getting but its not working dammit . So what's left to try ? Could it be leading more and more to dirty power ( alternator messed up )?

Here what i got http://www.crutchfield.com/S-6Sb0NJWzRs5/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?I=003AS100

HELP !

I know its frustrating...I've had the same thing happen to me.

Was the head unit new when you bought it?
What car do you have and what year is it?
How many miles are on it and when was the last tune up (plugs and wires)?
How old is the battery?

You said it also occurs when you reconnect the factory head unit. This leads me to believe there is something wrong with the electrical system completely unrelated to the stereo.

You could try running a new ground wire from the chassis to the battery's negative terminal. Then try running a power from the battery's positive terminal directly to the head unit. Try disconnecting speakers one at a time (just in case there is a short in the factory speaker wire, unlikely but you never know). These probably won't solve it but you never know.

My car is a 2000 mazda protege with 90 000 kms. My head unit was new .Im preatty sure its the original battery cause theres Japanese writing on it , so a 5 year old battery. 1sty said to check the antenna ground but where is that ground ? Also all try a seperate ground for the head unit straigth to the battery . It only does it on FM when the radio uses the antenna . On CD its fine . Its either the alternator , the battery on the antenna .

BTW what was you problem ?

My problem was the alternator on my 87 cougar. I tried all sorts of things and then a month later my car wouldn't start...replaced the alternator and everything worked like a charm.

You prolly need a battery soon. They're only good for 4-5 years.

Ahhh so it was the alternator , maybe its my problem , tomorow i will try to unbolt the antenna that way its gonna be ungrounded and i will try if the noise is still there . Im thinking about something , i did an engine cleaning and i did cover the alternator . i wonder if water got into it ? I better get that alternator checked . As for the battery yea a new one will be coming b4 this winter . Do you have recommendation on a good battery ?

i was always a fan of die hard batteries... (sears stores always carried them) and of course optima are nice.... i am not to familiar with normal perf batteries except for the die hard ones... as far as your grounding issues go.. i am not to familair with the pros stock system but sometimes the grounds for the stereo and antenna are right to the chasis of the HU... if thats the case i would try moving it to the car chasis... also check your neg to chasis ground on the batt.... if its completely corroded (sp) as may be the case with an older batt... clean the term and verify the ground has good contact...

I think sears will test your battery for free. If you have a voltage meter you can see what voltage your alternator is putting out. It should be between 13.8-14.4v at idle with nothing on (lights off, stereo off, etc). If its below 12v then there could be a number of things wrong:

1) you have a short that is draining the power
2) you have a bad battery
3) you have a bad alternator
4) you have a bad battery and alternator

well i just tryed unbolting the antenna from the chassis that means it was NOT grounded anymore and the noise stayed . So i checked to see if my antenna was good and i did the steps here : http://protege5.ugly.net/09-20.PDF 09-20-2 and the conductivity test are good . The antenna is fine . The grounds look lil dirty but im gonna clean them its not big of a deal . Im more and more starting to think that my alternator is the problem .... But the thing im not catching still is WHY it's all ok when on the CD player mode ?? Any tool to test if i have a good ground ?
