Hi, guys,

I currently have original Bridgestone RE92 tires on my 2000 Protege ES and it has a serious problem on wet traction. I'd like to get new tires for my car and at the same time, I would like to go for a little wider tires. I would love to go for 205/55-15, but the tire sales is telling me that I might bump into rubbing problem because the extra 1.1cm height. I don't really want to go for 205/50-15 because that will hurt the fuel economy a little. Has anybody tried 205/55-15 tires on their MP3 without other modifications ( wheels/spacers )? Is there any problems ( hard turn, weight on back seat... )? Any comment will be greatly appreciated.

Dinky... I did a little bit of math for you.

Below is a list of tire sizes and their overall height.

Stock MP3 = 205/45-R17 = 24.26 inches

Stock Protege 15 inch = 195/55/R15 = 23.44 in

Stock Protege 16 inch = 195/50/R16 = 23.68 in

Your Size 205/55/R15 = 23.8 in

So...... the stock mp3 wheel is almost .5 inches bigger then the one you want to use. You should probably be OK but there may be differences between the MP3 and protege that I am not aware of.

FYI:
Tire size is calculated by:
WWW/AA/RDD

((WWW * .AA)/2.54) * 2 + DD

EX:
205/55/R15 =

((205 * .55)/25.4) * 2 + 15 = 23.877...

Good Luck

Tim

I have the original 15" wheels ( I'm not sure they are 15X7 or 15X6 ). The thing concerns me is the distance between the rear tires and the buttom plate ( I don't know the technical term for that ) of the shocks and struts. The gap looks awfully small with my 195/55-15 tires on. I don't want to change the wheels or add spacers to the mount. Even though the math shows 205/55-15 will be only 5.5mm in height and 5mm in width ( only counted the inner half of the extra ) closer to the shocks, I don't want to bump into rubbing problem when I do hard turns or with people in the back seat on a bumpy road. Isn't 2000 Protege the same as MP3? Thanks for the helps, guys.
