alt. to powder coated wheels

a guy at my school has an rsx, i assumed his wheels were powder coated, and i asked him how much it was. he told me they werent powder coated but he used grill paint to paint them the gunmetal color he had them then he clear coated them with high temperature clear coat. i probably wont try this, but do you guys think it would work ok?

I don't know. Seems kind of ghetto... But then again I have a thing against painted wheels...
