Does anyone have these subs or know anything about them? I'm in the process of picking out what I want to buy and ran across these at onlinecarstereo.com

i read an article somewhere on these subs and they are 'supposed' to be pretty good............................but then again ive never heard them.........................1st mp3 should be here sometime to give you an answer.........

Decent sub but not one of my perfered choices.
they work great for Steve Brown's cars though. Hes the guy that builds all of Alpines demo vehicals.

They are a good sub. Can be sealed or ported and handle about 300 watts rms. For $200 they are right with the rest of the pack in there class. They are built to be a SQ sub but they get loud if you build the box for that.

Oh and the last comparision articla they were in was retarded!
Anyone else notice that no JL subwoofer has been in a comparison article in a long ass time?

I would get a JL W3v2 or W6AE for the $200.

Buying subs is one of the easiest things as long as you're prepared. Decide what power class you want to work with and pick a couple. For example choose 3 or 4 subs you have heard about that work well with 300watts. Next, buy the amp you are going to power them with and install it. Finally, go to different shops and have them throw in a prefab box in your trunk/hatch and listen. If you're prepared you can do a quick hot-swap and find out which one sounds good with your music in your car. If they won't do this for you...its their own loss, go somewhere else. You can't be 'sold' on car audio equipment by listening to it in a sound room.

...I have seen several comparison tests in the past few years and they come out on top every time. None recently though.

I constantly here 1st Mp3 speaking of the JL subs, but WHAT ABOUT THE BOSTON ACOUSTICS subs I think they beat the Jl's hands down.

That's some of the best advice I've heard in a long time.

Any shop that wants your business will do some quick-swaps on subs in a pre-fab box to let you decide. As long as you are prepared (meaning, amp hooked up, and speaker wires ready to just be popped into terminal cups), they should have no problem doing this for you.

Bostons lower level subs were never a problem it was the Pro subs that alot of poeple and compeditors tried and ended up swapping them out becuase they sound like crap. They break up so easily. The pros set Boston back 5 years.
Hell If you like Boston so much BUY MINE. 2 Pro 12" 2 ohm subs for only $75 a piece.
I warn you they have never sounded good.

It simple while I like JL. THey have never dissapointed me. They can play in damn near any box. JL rates there subs in every volume and type of box you can think of to let you know ahead of time how they will sound. They have bested EVERY other sub in competition numerous times. The W6 won more SQ titles then any other sub.

JL is the refernece. Any other company or sales person puching another sub always compares to JL. "They are louder then JL", "They have better SQ then JL", They handle more power then JL".
If that other sub is so good, why does no one compare subs to it?
Simple, becuase its not JL :D.

I'd tell you no flat out if you came in on a satureday trying that crap.
If the salespeople are busy then you are s*** out of luck. I am not leaving the sales floor so I can spend an hour loading sub boxes for someone that will probably buy on the internet anyways.
If the sub is already loaded in a box and I have I may let you try it out but only if I think you are serious. And there is no way in hell I am reloading different subs that I then can not sell new to other customers.
Also becuase f the typical install F-ups I wouldn't risk the sub unless I knew damn well the amp was connected correctly.

Thats the one reason I have only done it at small shops...cause most chain store sales reps will say exactly what you did...

...but its the reason I bought my Eclipse 86 series (rated 175w rms). It sounded better than any RFs, Boston's radiator prefab, soundstream, and a single JL 12W0...

...in my car (87 Cougar at the time), with my 200watts from my Precision Power 5ch amp with my music playing.

Doing it any other way is like buying a TV that was turned off in the show room.

...oh, on a side note, all the subs i tried were already in boxes. I had a wire and a quick connect coming out of my amp rack to make it a quick plug in. Most small shops have their subs in the show room in boxes ready to be sold...but I know what you mean...I wouldn't hook up a sub to a system if I could see wires all over the place and an amp bouncing around in the trunk. My install was finished except for the sub.

Come in at 6-7 PM on a Tuesday and you will find the salemen more willing as there probably hasn't been anyone in the store for an hour.

yo, cool a sub discussion. well i'll input my 2 cents. i like resonant engineering subs. they are the ultimate sql application. best sounding subs i've heard so far. from their entry level SE series, through the mid level HC, and the master of all behemoths, the XXX series. if you are willing to spend big bux on some sub action. go for the XXX.

oh yeah and the adire brahma is good too. ;)
lets not forget the awesomeness of ED! :)
as well as DD.

K.I.S.S. Its my moto. I like U.S. built subs. No imported subs. They are becoming harder to find but they are available.

The best seeling subs are all made in the US.
JL, Rockford Fosgate, MTX, Boston acoustic, Kicker, All the DEI brands (orion, ADS, PPI, ect.)
Seems that most of the best selling subs are American companies atleast although some of these are probably built in mexico.

I've got one for sale

If anyone's interested. I bought it on a whim (Ikesound,) and used it for about 2 days. I just can't bring myself to taking the JL's out..... :D

It's a 10" dual 4 ohm voice coil SWR-1041D (wired in parallel for a 2 ohm load.) Mounted in a Q-logic .65 box (Crutchfield.) Basically brand spank'n new (has been sitting on my kitchen counter for over a month now!) If interested, email me jmackenz@insight.rr.com

It needs a solid 300wrms amp to really shine (I'm using a JL 300/2 for my sub amp.)
