Alright, heres the scenario:

currently i have 2 RF Punch XLC 12's, model number RFP-2812, dual voice coil, 8 ohms each
spec sheet

these are running off an old Pioneer GM-X522 amp, specs here

my fiance wants a sub, and therefore obviously needs an amp

so heres what i plan on doing:
give her one of my two subs (since I dont seem to gain anything with the second sub), and make a custom fiberglass box in her trunk for it (i've gotten pretty good at this, thanks to 1st's suggestions, and Hiho's tutorial)
give her my pioneer amp, since when the sub is paralleled down to 4 ohm, it gets 150 watts rms, which isn't bad.

the subs can only handle a max of 200 watts rms, according to the spec sheets.
so i have found an Alpine MRP-M350 which is a mono sub amp. The rms at 4 ohms is 200 watts, which should be perfect, here are the specs from crutchfield

now, i know that alpine makes good head units, but i have never really heard anything about their amps.

this looks like a good deal to me, at 199, with free shipping, i am a cheap bastard, and i would like to keep the costs low, definetly under 300, preferably lower than 250.

any other suggestions are welcome, but keep in mind that you will look like an idiot if you come in here and say "i use brand x, it costs 20000, buy them" without even reading this post. :D

The alpine is a good amp, I have heard it may be the same damn thing as the MRV-M300 V12 series amp but without the digital setup circuitry.

Are you sure that is a dual 8 ohm sub? Sounds odd?

yeah it is. if you check the specs sheet they had it in a dual 8 ohm or dual 4 ohm, and its DEFINETLY 8 ohm. right now i have both of them paralleled down together to make a 2 ohm load, but i had tried series on each, then parallel together, thinkin that would give a 4 ohm load, because if each coil is 4, then each sub would be 8 when in series, then back to 4 when parallel with the other....but that gave me a 8 ohm load and basically gave me NO output.

The Alpine is a solid amp with decent power. As long as she just wnats a good clean thunp in the back then it's a great amp to use, actually one of my favorites due to the clarity.

i think i'm going to go with it. that just seems like too good of a deal to pass up. thanks for your input, and i'm sure many more will still post their $0.02

thanks
