5 speed with Mazdaspeed short shifter, white over black. Spent a day cleaning it, now I'm working on getting the dents taken care of and it should be great.

I am in exile from German cars, previously owning (in order of appearance), BMW 540 6 speed, Porsche 944 Turbo, Audi A4, and a Porsche 911. Unfortunately, I finally came to the hard decision that my BMW, and German cars in general, simply were too much upkeep for a engineering student with a wife and son. So out went the 300 HP BMW, and in came the MP5, with it's thundering 130 HP of fury.

Overall though, it's a great little car. Sure it could use more power, but it's good looking inside and out, handles great, and has a shifter and pedal placement to die for. Heel toe downshifts have never been so much fun. 30 MPG and cheap parts are a big plus too. I'm doing the maintenance thing, old habits die hard, and German cars are much better to fix before they break. This weekend it got new NGK plugs, coolant flush, and an EGR clean, next week will be Royal Purple in the tranny and Mobil 1 in the engine. It will stay pretty stock, at some point I'll probably get some Kartboy shift bushings, a window tint, and maybe a Racing Beat cat-back and upgraded rear sway bar. Spent plenty of time lurking on here pre and post sale, look forward to shooting the sh!t with you all.

Welcome to the P5 family. I'm sure after your previous rides, the P5 must seem molasses slow, but you're right: It's miles and miles of fun and good looking to boot! Treat her right and you won't regret your purchase......until you get smoked my a Honda Odessey minivan....but at least you'll look good doing it. Oh and GREAT CHOICE on the color. I'm partial to it myself!

It's my first white car, and I love it. My 540 was Oxford Green, ie dark green, and it looked dirty 5 minutes after I washed it. White always looks clean. The speed thing is weird, the MP5 doesn't feel all that slow around town because of it's great torque. The 540 had a 4.0 V8, so it also had an insane torque band, but the only way to stay out of jail was to just put along. The 944 Turbo was absolutely dead under 3k due to turbo lag, so it actually felt slow around town. The highway on the other hand.....:)

The old adage about it being more fun to drive a slow car fast certainly applies to this car, having big power is great, but most of the time you really can't use it, unless you want to be someone's Nancy-boy in prison.

Congrats on the purchase (thumb) The Protege5 is a neat little hatch....i loved mine.

The car you purchased is awesome! I would have snatched it up if it were in the east coast.. congradulations. :-) I'm still searching for one

I have the Racing Beat cat back and love it, and so will you. Street Unit has that exhaust for $403 shipped if interested. Simply let me know.

Wow... nice list of previous rides! After driving a 911, everything else will pale. But the P5 does handle pretty damn good for a little Japanese sedan, and the maintenance is way more affordable than anything out of Germany. Fun for the dollar quotient is pretty good!

Thats the ol' Sir Nuke welcome I remember! (headbang)

Welcome to the site. I had a Jetta a few years ago. I loved that car. And even though the P5 isn't the fastest car in the world, it's still a good compromise if you want something that's fun, sexy and economical.
