All-Weather Floor Mats

I've been looking for a good set of all-weather floor mats for my P5. I can't seem to find any factory ones and was wondering what others have used or what their opinions are on some I've come across.

Lloyd RubberTite
WeatherTech
Hexomat
Husky Heavy-Duty Floor Mats

Also does anyone know if the Mazdaspeed floor mats for the MP3 will work in the P5?

Thanks,

The mazdaspeed mats work, I use a set in the summer in my P5. Other than that just go to canadian tire or walmart or any auto parts store and you can find a wide selection of mats that should fit. In the winter (as in right now) I have a trim to fit set from walmart that fit in well enough. I have to warn you factory ones are probably pretty expensive at this point, whereas I got the winter set at walmart for about $20 for 4 mats.

Thanks for your response.

In the past I have purchased trim-to-fit mats from Autozone, Sam's and Wal-Mart for other vehicles. For our old Subaru Outback, I purchased the factory mats, and loved that they were the perfect size and shape for the car.

Since then I've tried to get factory mats for all of my cars. We recently just got 2 new (used) cars. For our Town and Country I have no problem using the one-size-fits-all mats, for my car, the P5, I want that same fit as the Subaru mats.

The other thing I loved about the Subaru Mats was how rugged they were. I mean each mat must have weighed 4lbs each. And the edges were about an inch thick. I never worried about anything spilling on that floor.

Thanks again,

I've been a loyal customer with Weathertech (on my 2nd set of mats for the Protege + another set for the Corolla - 1st lasted 4+ years; I just replaced the front two though as I rarely have rear passengers). I pulled the stockers about a month after I bought the car and haven't used them since.

They're great for the winter, but I keep them in year around. In the warmer days, they just keep all the little parking lot rocks that get stuck to the bottom of your shoes in place when they fall off, rain water from soaking in, and (if you go like I do) the sand from the beach in its place....

I'd recommend them - they're fairly universal, good quality, recyclable even - but they fit the Protege5 just fine - not perfect as stock, but fine nonetheless (though it takes a couple of weeks to get them to mold properly; much easier in warmer temperatures...). The Subaru mats sound great though.

Maybe if you tried sourcing some Asian Sport20/Astina/Familia S (perhaps from the Field Break model - http://www.protege323.com/content/23_worldmodels/index.php) all-weather mats (if they exist) that would be a more natural fit.

I'm a Weathertech user too. The best rubber mats on the market - IMO. They are built like tanks, you can cut them to fit, they hold tons of water, slop, junk, rocks - whatever you don't want to be on the carpet. They're expensive but they'll last for years and years. I use mine year round and save myself the hassle of having to clean carpet mats.

The factory Mazda mats are not to thick or rugged. At least the mazdaspeed ones aren't, I bought my car used and there were el-cheap-o rubber mats in there when I picked it up. I know the mazdaspeed mats are way thinner than the mats in my parents subarus, and I don't see the regular mazda mats being any thicker. Just a warning before you get too excited about getting mazda mats.

Looks like I'll probably go with the WeatherTech mats. I don't really like the idea of putting a mat on top of my esxisting mats. Which, it seems, is how the Lloyd RubberTite and the Hexomats work. I keep my all-weather mats in year round anyway.

The exciting thing about the MS3 Mats was that they'd be Mazda Branded and would probably be a pretty custom fit. But if they're pretty weak, then I'm not going to spend the money on them.

Thanks again for all of your responses. I'm probably putting too much thought into this anyway. But I tend to do that with any purchase over $4.99 :)

Peel, there's no requirement to keep your existing carpet mats in the car when using any of these rubber-based mats. Keep the carpet mats in or take them out - it's your preference.

Those Hexomats look really intriguing since they are custom fit to the floor pan. Thanks for the link Redcoat!

Just as an update. I stopped in Wally World the other day for something else and poked around in their floor mats and came across a 4 Piece Kraco set for $26 that I figured was worth a shot. They sort of mimic the Hexomats but, from what I can tell from the Hexomat pictures, they are much thicker and more heavy duty.

They are made for Trucks and SUVs but fit my P5 just fine. The driver side one has to sit at a bit of an angle, but it's acceptable. So far I really like them. They don't move, they're comfortable, and I think they'll hold up for some time.

Here's a link to the Kraco site:

Take care,

Avoid Hexomats as the fumes are very toxic. No amount of cleaning and airing them will stop it. Do your self and your kids a favor and chuck them before you are permanently harmed by PB poisoning! These are manufactured by people who want money even at the cost of poisoning consumers.

$20 from wal-mart for a set of four. They've lasted 2 winters and counting and keep the carpet looking great.
