i wanna put a automatic car starter on my 2003 protege 5, my local shop wants to charge me $180, but mazda wazda told me that it will avoid my warranty if i dont do it with them, they wanna charge me $350!!!, what should i do? keep in mind my car is stick.

someone hit my 03 mazda p5 two weeks ago and it's still in the shop...Mazda Gallery is sloooowwww..everytime i call it's "yea 2 more weeks" ughhh anyone have problems like this in the MA area?! i needed a new right side front fender and bumper parts..the other car hit my front right wheel area :( sent my car to this Mazda autobody shop cause I had bought the car brand new from that dealership..now i'm beginning to wonder :\

Don't rely on the warranty for anything. Even if you're stock they'll probably blame any damage on driving habits and deny the claim anyway. Just mod if you want to, warranties are bulls***.

Well, I have the same problem as someone that posted earlier. The dealer up in Georgetown told me that modding my car would void my warranty and they gave me a hassle about an oil change while the dealer I go to completely supports modding your car. s***, they even sell the parts at the dealership and I think I am on a first name basis since mazdaspeedgirl works there and I talk to her and the service guys. Only thing I didn't like was the price they were going to charge me to install my springs.

so does lowering your car void your warranty? Or does it depend on the dealer? If it is a dealer installed lowering kit does it make a difference?

if ur goin in for warranty work ur best bet is to slap the stocker back on so they cant say nuthin'

What kind of corrosion warranty does Mazda have? I just got an '03 p5 with 65k with a BAD corrosion problem. All the brackets are corroded under the car and hood. I changed the bulbs in my fog lights and where it bolts up was rusted so bad that I had to break the bolts and drill them out and reinstall new nuts and bolts... a b****. Now the paint is bubbling up on the doors.

hello all,
i noticed while washing my car that i have several rust spots under my drivers side rear wheel well on the lip. does anyone know how long the paint is covered under warranty?? i have an 03 with about 60k on it. thanx.

I believe 7 years unlimited mileage. Mine rusted there, and in the summer of 05 they repainted, and now it's rusting again, much worse than before. Sucks, but the body shop the dealership used did a shittastic job and the problem came back. I'll have to stop by sometime (would do it today but I think they're closed) and see what the dealership here can do for me.

thanx Kansei, i will definitely be paying my dealership a visit this week then. good luck with yours.

rust :(

zoomzoom3 I'm also in NF NJ....

Our 2002 P5 has paint bubbling and rust everywhere. I tried several times a last year and the year before with Mazda USA and the the dealer (Wayne) to get them to honor the corrision warranty (my book says 6 years).

They basically said the warranty is for 35K miles, the 6 year is for the metal being rusted through (it is now where the side body trim wore the paint away
on the rear wheel well). Both the dealer and mazda usa said anything remotely near the rear wheel well has been caused by stones and it is not covered.

I have seen several P5s rusted in the same spot as ours and some not.. Is
your car blue? I notice many blue ones like mine but not yellow or red.

Really like the car but the corrosion reminds me of my dad's cars from 70's...all rusted away.

yeah i ended up having a local body shop use acid on the rust and reshooting the whole section on both wheel wells. came out really good. still not happy with Mazda though, and they know they are wrong...you can hear it in their tones on the phone, but oh well...such is life. sorry to her you're suffering from the rust as well. Did they give you ten million reasons why it is not their fault too?? two of my favs were: 1. Dealer: You have a modified rear bumper. Me: No this is the stock bumper that came with the car. Dealer: (confused) Oh yeah it is. & 2. Dealer: You have a custom paint job. Me: No this is the stock Yellow for the P5. Dealer: (confused..again) Oh yeah it is the stock color. All I have to say is: IDIOTS!! oh and the dealer rep, bragged how he worked as a mechanic and in a body shop prior to this.

Sad too.

Yes, we're thinking about paying to get it fixed at the local shop.

Our anger/dissapointment astounds even us. Here we have a car that has
been the most reliable we've ever owned. It has needed very little repairs
and is good on gas. It really is a good car.
But all those cost savings will be negated by the cost to repair rust that could
have been prevented with some thought.

With the level of rust on the brakes and other components and it starting
by the door we're thinking the body may not hold up even if we repair it.

If I could ask, where did you get your work done and is it holding up?

I live over in West Milford, there is a guy by the name of AJ, he did the work for me, has a little shop off of Rte 23. So far everything looks good.
