All-New Mazda CX-5 Crossover SUV World Premiere at 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show

Mazda CX-5 to bow at Frankfurt motor show with SkyActiv technology

The Mazda CX-5 crossover will make its debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September, but until then, we have some details on the small five-door to share.

The Mazda CX-5 will be the first in the lineup to use the Kodo design language, which the company says should evoke the soul of motion. The style was first seen on the Mazda Shinari and Minagi concept cars. The CX-5 will also use the new fuel-efficient SkyActiv technologies that the company has been working on.

The SkyActiv term covers both the engine and transmission choices for the Mazda. The European market will get the option of either the SkyActiv G gasoline engine or the SkyActiv D diesel. Two transmissions are available, the SkyActiv Drive automatic and the SkyActiv MT six-speed manual.

We will definitely see the 160-hp SkyActiv G engine here, along with both transmissions. No word yet on whether we'll get the diesel option as well.

Joining the CX-5 in Frankfurt will be the facelifted Mazda 3 with an updated interior, sportier driving dynamics and less emissions.

The full reveal of the Mazda CX-5 will be available on Sept. 13, and AutoWeek will be in Frankfurt to get all the details.

The new front and 6MT available (Europe anyway), not bad for a crossover.

i like it. not sure i would buy one (not an SUV kind of guy), but i like it.

This would be my first new car buy. If I could get it with the SkyActiv-D, SkyActiv-MT and AWD. But, sadly, the diesel isn't expected to come in the CX-5 in the U.S. Hopefully they change their minds by 2013 when the SkyActiv-D makes its entrance to the U.S. market, but it may also be put in the new Mazda6 instead.
