Alarm system honk...

is there an easy way to get rid of the "honking" when enabling the alarm... it's too damn loud to be used late at night in a residential area...

for example, on the subaru wrx, you can press the lock and unlock button on the keyless remote for 2 seconds to disable the honk when enabling the alarm... anything similar to this on the protege5??

thanks,

yes and no......the ONLY time your horn should honk when you enable the factory alarm or door locks is if you push the LOCK button TWICE within 5 seconds of one another.....

IF you just push the lock button ONCE, which is all it takes to lock the car and in the case of the factory alarm, lock the doors AND arm the alarm, the horn does NOT HONK...

so.....just push the button ONCE and you have what you want.

the ONLY thing the second push of the button does, when pushed within 5 seconds of the first push, is CONFIRM that the door locks are locked and if you have the alarm that the alarm is armed.

i didn't know that only one press was needed to lock AND alarm the car... every other factory system i've had in the past was one-press for locking doors and two-press for alarm...

also, when i picked up the car, the mazda salesman went thru a "checklist" or "quick instructional" about the protege5 including the factory alarm... he stated what i was accustomed to about the one-press/lock and two-press/alarm...

in any case, thanks for the info!
