Alarm/Keyless Entry issues...

I hope someone knows what Im talking about here, as it is a bit strange. I have an 03 P5 and ever since I have owned it, when I get out, I hit the Lock button on the remote while the door is still open. This usually causes a beep to sound, as well as lighting up the red alarm indicator on the gauge cluster and locking all doors. Upon exiting the car (and thus closing the door), the exterior lights would flash just as they would if one were to hit the Lock button after exiting and closing all doors. Essentially, I have been setting the alarm before getting out, then the alarm would be activated after closing the door. As of late though, this is not the case. Now if I try to follow the same procedure, upon hitting the lock button with the door open, the lights blink and there is no beep sound, essentially setting the alarm with the door open. This means when I then go to close the door, as soon as the door latches, the alarm goes off.

This is by no means a big deal or anything, just something I got accustomed to doing and now when I try I tend to look like the idiot who doesnt know how to work his alarm. I know I can just lock and set it after closing the doors, but I just was wondering why this changed all of a sudden....Any thoughts/answers would be greatly appreciated!

I have no idea why your alarm worked like you describe it in the first place....

as the reason that the alarm CHIRPS is not truely a function of the alarm...but when you hit the lock button TWICE the flashing lights and the chirp are a positive indication that all your doors and sun roof if you have one are all closed....

so from the sound of it to me.....it was NOT working properly to begin with...and NOW it is.

Thanks for your thoughts Sir. The only thing is, when I say that it "beeps," I literally mean an electronic "beep" would sound from the inside of the car (when the lock button was pushed, with the door open). This would sound prior to closing the door, and when this method was used, there would be no horn beep (unless "lock" was pressed after the door was closed). Anyway, like I said, no biggie. Just gotta get used to doing it the right way. Thanks again!
