I have the alarm that was installed by the factory and keep having the issue (which just started) that the alarm goes off for no apparent reason. :wtf:

Has anyone had this issue and how does one go about decreasing the sensitivity on the alarm?

Any help would be appreciated.

Ted

Look under the steering column/dash and there is a little box (you will have to get on your back and use a flashlight). There is a white dial on the box - turning this dial counterclockwise will make the alarm less sensitive.

No problem. BTW, the whole control device is pretty small. I've heard the black box described as "zippo-sized", so you can imagine the white dial is pretty small - get yer reading glasses out! :D

Mine used to go off every day in my parking garage at work, so I just cranked it back all the way. It is almost impossible to trip now, but I figure a determined thief will set it blaring.

I just tap on the box and watch the light blink. Set the dial where you have to tap it a bit harder to light it. But I really dont trust our alarms cause you can sometimes bounce on the bumper no honk honk but let a loud truck rev next to it and pain to tha ears.

yeah i had this problem so i turned it down......car got broken into the next day and nothin went off...so i turned it back up and i deal with it when it goes off

I had posted the same question because cars passing in the parking garage at work was setting off the alarm. I adjusted mine so that it goes off with window blow impact. I tested it by adjusting it and arming the alarm and tapping on the body and glass until it was were I wanted it. I found mine turned all the way up.

Yup - that did the trick - all better now - no more falses

Thanx Guys

No prob - did you crank it all the way down, or just do the test for sensitivity? Mine is completely turned b/c I was sick of false alarms, but I'm thinking of increasing the sensitivity a bit (but below what sets it off in the parking garage).

I have it just below the lowest level (about a 1/16th of a turn above)

Flip a door handle hard or rock the car a good amount and it will go nuts.

My RX-8 doesn't have the same issue, but the alarm system is all integrated, etc into the car system and not an addon - harder then hell to adjust if you have an issue though...

Cool - I'll back mine off a bit. I can beat the hell out of my windows and pull the handles, but no alarm.

I had adjusted mine down almost all the way but today it started beeping when a car with a blown out exhaust went by in the parking garage. I turned it all the way down. My experience with these things in the past is that they are always more sensative in cold weather and it has been cold as hell here in Detroit the last week or so. I will probably adjust it as needed, it was hard to see where the knob was at first without laying on my back on the drivers side looking up. :D
