air intake

I have the ebay SRI with a K&N. It comes with metal brackets you connect to the MAF. You need to work them a little to position the intake so itwill not rub the master cylinder. I didn't at first, and it rubbed. I fixed it, no problems in over a year.

Since you are about to venture into the modification realm, here are my $.02, from a previous post with some updates, for someone about to start modding.

Well, good luck, and check out the for sale section, and work with the Authorized Venders and sellers!"

WOW!!.. Great post RaiderMP5!!! As a newbie, I have been searching and reading up on all these "issues". I am very interested in the true "bang for the buck" mods. Thanks for a good summary of beginner mods!

ractive is just about the closest thing to an ebay intake on looks wise. hahaha. the metal elbow from the throttlebody takes a little tweaking for it to not rub against the master cylinder by adjusting the bracket at the MAF sensor, just as someone mentioned above. i wasn't careful before so i wind up with a chunk of metal rubbed off of the pipe and a lil cornor of the master cylinder, until i start to get a lil aware of the insane amount of rattling. but after i rebent the bracket it's been fine for the past 3 months without anything rubbing anywhere. i don't dislike it or anything 'cause everyone knows that they don't do crap for any gains but does free the air flow a bit and allow the engine to rev up a lil faster n a lil louder. n since your goal is to get that womp supercharger from matty (same here), u might as well save the money for the three gauges or motor mount.

Looks like fun! Why don't you pick up an OBX header and help free up airflow even more? 8-)

sorry for the quick thread jack. but funny that u mentioned that, as i am expecting that 4-1 header to be delivered within the week and very much looking forward to it. hopefully that cold heat soldering iron can do its job as well as my old soldering iron. i doubt i'd look for any cat-back right now cuz back when i was on the toyotanation forum with my camry there were threads about how the loss of back pressure could affect the engine negatively and cause you to lose lower end power. anyone heard of anything like that? PM me back on it cuz i don't wanna jack this thread about intakes even though there are just way too many of them around anyways, haha.

aah threadjack away.

You will lose some low-end power from lack of back pressure. But you'll also gain much more high-end power. Since the car has lots of low-end already and desparately needs high-end, it's a good trade-off. I have found it to have much more power now at the 3-5k range, which is where I need the power.

Soldering iron? What for? I'd recommend doing the spark plug nonfouler fix. No soldering required! I've gone for about 300+ miles now no CEL.

Your Ractive looks exactly like my ebay version! I think the bracket for the MAF to the battery box is different.

As far as the o2 sensor trick for the header, I am using the non-fouler method, and it is working great at 100 miles on only 1 of the non-foulers. I took the 2nd off because the way they put on the 2nd o2, it hung out below the car a little. But I drove 300 miles with no CEL with the non-fouler trick.
