Air blowing through vents even with AC off.

I shake my head every time I ask a question and someone comments that I am complaining. I just wanted to know if that was the natural function of the HVAC, because I have not experienced this in other vehicles that I have owned. Ease up Sporty.

I think I understand now that "off" doesn't really mean off in the sense that it stops airflow. I either need to press the recirc button or redirect to my feet. Then when I turn the HVAC back on, I need to change the mode to feet + face, or press the button for outside air. I dig it.

While I agree that it isn't that much effort to press the extra button every time, it doesn't seem that intuitive, which is not good engineering. If you want air blowing, turn on the fan (not a dig at ucMP3). If you don't, turn it to off, just like at home. Seems logical, no?

I agree. Some people here are so blindly in love with their CX-9 that they just can't believe anyone would dare say something negative about it. Reminds me of the MSM and a certain POTUS.

I have an '08 Corvette, '08 Santa Fe, and '06 Cadillac STS. None of them allow air flow when the HVAC is off like my '08 CX-9 does.

Does this bug me? Yes, but no more than the other issues I have with the CX-9. I still thoroughly enjoy the CX-9, and these minor issues would not prevent me from buying it.

My other 3 vehicles have minor issues that irritate me too, but I still enjoy them. I don't think there's a perfect vehicle out there. Hell, I've owned two $75K BMW 7-Series, and they were far from perfect.

i'ld hate to have a perfect car.....i'ld never have to work on it.....and that's the fun part about having a car

I don't own a cx-7 and could give a **** less about them. And still think that if you press the recirculation button, oila! problem solved! :D:D lol j/k....

Really, that was a joke. I'm a sarcastic person. Don't hate.

sam191, I wasn't talking about you before. You asked a legitimate question, and it was answered. The Recirc button.

I like how the system works. I can set a temp, turn the air to OUTSIDE, and then turn the whole system off and get fresh air at that temp. They traded a minor inconvenience for more function.

It's a very simple and intuitive HVAC. Look at the controls on some other cars, especially luxury cars. They look like the space shuttle cockpit. A sea of identical buttons and poor labels...

If you want to talk about bad engineering, how about the GM 'service fan' that can't be turned off. Ever

If there is something about a car you don't like that much, then don't buy it. If you didn't get to know the car that well first, it's your fault, so don't then come here and complain that you don't like how they made it. A design choice you disagree with doesn't mean bad engineering. There are some minor things I would like to be different, but I knew about them before we decided to buy a CX9 because they are minor and don't detract from the car. You will never see me complain about them being bad engineering just because they don't work the way I think they should.

Agreed about the outrageous cockpits of other SUVs. That is one of the things I didn't like about the 09 pilot when we were considering it. Do we really need that many buttons?

BTW, all I said was that I haven't experienced an HVAC system like this, not that it was the norm or not. Geez! Some like it, some don't, some are indifferent. That's no different than most other things. Overall, I think it's a great vehicle.

I am not familiar with the GM "service fan" issue.

Think back a few years and you may see the rationale. Although it isnt mandated, its now industry standard (ok, sort of) to have air in the cabin at-all-times and be defeated with recirc-air control. Nowadays AC is (basically) no longer an option, so when stopped in traffic (or during rain/snow season i.e. windows closed) guess what people got CO poisoning. This is also the reason cabin-filters became of age, since normally vent-air was on (recirc-air off).

For decades GM cars all had what was called a Service Fan that came on every time you turned on the car to blow air. It ran constantly and could not be turned off.
I don't know if they still have it, because I won't touch a GM product. I drove a 2000 S10 work truck (junk) and it had it, so they had them at least until then.

Better yet Ever wonder why when you turn the defroster on (Honda in this case) it turns off the recirc and lets fresh/vent air on. Is that a nuisance, or how about -engineered- safety - when your windows fog its because theyre fully (for the most part) closed.

But what good is 430 HP when you're sitting on the side of the road with no apparent cause?

???? My '05 Corvette was 38 months old when I traded it in for the '08. Over that time the only reason it went back to the dealer was for LOF--zero issues. I've owned my '08 for 10 months; again, zero issues so far. No TSBs, no recalls, nada.

Wish I could say that about my CX-9......

I believe you, but what is LOF?

Best damn automotive show on TV!!! I want to be The Stig. (drive)

I agree with the best damn show part, but I would prefer to be one of the other guys who doesn't have to dress up in a racing suit and helmet for everything he does. Always seemed a little weird to me.
