I've done some reading on the forums, and most recommend only genuine thermostats due to poor history with aftermarket thermostats at Autozone, etc. However, I stumbled upon this and wondering if anyone has any experience with this company/part. Currently, onlinemazdaparts.com has the genuine part at $44.95 plus 7.50 shipping. Total: $52.45. So you'd save $20 with the Stant thermostat. Worth it?

From Amazon:
Stant 48728 XACTStat 180 Degrees Fahrenheit Thermostat
Price: $32.75 & this item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping.

Some even have ports for attaching coolant temperature sensors. So if you want thermostats that are EXACTLY the same as the original part, order XACTStat thermostats from Stant.[/INDENT]

Stant is a good quality replacement thermostat and is used in many independent garages. They
probably manufacture thermostats for some automobile manufacturers, where they become OE
stats.

Don't know what brands Autozone and Advance sells. I know one of them used to sell Robertshaw
stats, also a very good thermostat.

I wouldn't hesitate to use a quality aftermarket thermostat in my Mazda 3.

Just be careful using an aftermarket thermostat for the 2.0 and 2.3 Mazda 3s, the 2.0 and 2.3 Ford uses mounts the thermostat housing differently and run the coolant hoses at different angles - I have installed a NAPA thermostat on an 04 3 2.3 and the lower hose was rubbing the alternator housing. Just get a Mazda one from the dealer

Aftermarket companies for these thermostat housings just make a generally broad model of them and they will bolt on fine but hose fitment WILL be a concern

OK, looks like my advice should be ignored. Most of my work has been on older cars.
