Aftermarket swapped back to Stock, sorta?

Hey All.

I usually spend more time over in the P5 forum (on my second one of those) but my folks just bought a used 2003 6.

I got a chance to look at it today and its pretty clear that someone had an aftermarket stereo setup in the car before they bought it. There is a power cable from the Pos side of the battery with a 100 AMP fuse in it that leads to the trunk, and in the trunk there is a ground cable and some other cable with RCA connectors on it leading somewhere into the car. There is also a random red wire that I dont know what it does.

The problem is that the radio works fine in the car, but the CD player doesnt work. My mom is not thrilled with this, since its "new" to her.

So my question to you stereo gurus is could a stock to aftermarket back to stock swap cause the CD player to stop working? Is there something easy for me to check? I doubt they want to put a different head unit in the car, but I would consider it if I could find a decent one cheap.

Any help?

I will do some more searching, as I was on dialup at my folks place, but if someone can point me to some good guides or posts about the audio systems/center column on the early 6, it would be much appreciated!

I know that some OEM stereos have a safety lock that once they are disconnected they disable some modes or even the entire stereo deck. There is typically a code that you input to bring the deck back to life. That code should be in the original owner's manual. If you don't have the owner's manual to try, there may be a dealer code out there (though I can't say for certain).

As far as i know Mazda does have any security on the radios. I've have mine out a couple of times and never had any issues.

The radio works but the cd function does not? well then something to do with the CD player is pooched. Time for a used stocker, or aftermarket unit.
