2007 MS3 GT
Does anyone know if/when a vendor like Hawk is coming out with performance pads for the MS3? I was at NHIS yesterday and had real problems with brake fade. I REALLY miss my Hawk Blues, man..... The OEM pads simply can't take the heat, contrary to what the morons at Road & Track say.

Hawk HPS don't hold up on the track. They're great street pads, but not for track use. Trust me on that. Although, I may order them for regular use...

...well that only makes sense....High Performance Street.
If you like Hawk stuff, try taking a couple steps up their product line to the HP+

The HP+ would be great. Do you know anyone who sells them for the MS3, though. I can't find the MS3 listed on Hawk's site...grr...

(google) or contact Hawk directly...

I will say this though: at last weekend's autocross school, one of the instructors suggested having more aggressive pads in the rear as an inexpensive method of compensating for the built-in brake bias (especially for FWD).
Not advice I'd casually brush aside, seeing as there seems to be an unusual concentration of national champs in the group ;)

Hawk HPS Pads for the Mazdaspeed 3

I was at tirerack.com and noticed that they have in stock Hawk HPS Street Pads for the Front Brakes! At $76.00 per set - that is a great price for anyone looking for a little more bite and less dust.

It will be a while before I need new pads but I thought I would mention it for all those that have been waiting for them.

Cheers!

Peter

Wow!! Hawk told me August was the ETA. Maybe they were just talking about the Hawk Blues.. I'm ordering now!

I am running Carbo Tech street/track pads on the MS3. Superior to stock and I have had NO fade problems whoaing down countless time from 100+ on the road courses. Just a hint, the pad fit is exactly the same as Audi S4 (the new V8 model). Carbo Tech 1-877-899-5024. Tell Chris that Sam loves his carbo techs!(gossip)

I book marked this thank you. I plan on buying my own pads then taking it in to have done and paying labor and to turn the disks.

Are these good pads to have? I dont know much about them but it says they fit the MS3 2007 so the fit shoudl be perfect but is they anything else I may need to know when buying these?

I dont want to go to the dealer and have them try to sell me stock pads again since I hate that damn dust and I am sure there are better choices out there. Going to pepboys or something is a no go since they dont stock s*** for the Mazdas and as a matter of fact they didnt stock anything for my friends regular 3 and had to order OEM pads.

Please tell me more that I may like to know or good word about those pads or any others to consider. Also it says the rear are ceramic but nothing about the front so is that a good chocie?

Dust will be a fact of life with most pads.
It's my understanding that the more aggressive the pad, the greater incidence of dust. Ceramic-based pads are an alternative, but there's the risk of squealing.

On brands for spirited driving & light racing (like autoX) Hawk has come highly recommended within our group, and Carbotech has been mentioned positively as well. I had asked about EBC, and was met with an emphatic no.
I have no experience with any of these products yet, just passing the info along...

The HPS always did me well on my VW. Yeah, they would go through periods of squeal here and there but not a huge deal. WAY bette than the dusty OEM pads. Seems Mazda OEM pads are just as dusty.

I've never heard a good thing about EBC pads, unless you enjoy having pads that eat your rotors for lunch.

I order HPS f and r for my MS3 today! Can't wait!

So did you order the exact same pads as in that link above?

It says the rears are ceramic is that what you ordered?

If not hook me up with the link that what I should buy, thanks man.

So are you saying that we can order brake pads made for the V8 S4 and the will fit our calipers?

I've been looking for some pads to use at the track at the end of August. Haven't seen the HAWK Blues yet. I found the HP +'s but everywhere I look says that they have a chance of eating away the rotors much faster. Is this going to be a big deal or not something to worry about. And how come they say the HP + will eat away at the rotors faster, and not the Blues and other racing pads?? And does anybody have a good link to buy the hawks from??

Any track pad is going to be rough on the rotors, but th amount of time you'll be spending on them is relatively minimal. I don't think you'd see all that much excessive wear after just a couple of events. Even then, it's not a big deal. Rotors are made to wear and be replaced. :)

Regardless of what pad you get, make SURE to wash your wheels and car as soon as you get home. The track pad dust can be quite corrosive and mess up the finish on rims/paint.
